The arcade style FPS game Deadly Tower has been released! It is a small experimental game trying out a concept we found interesting at a recent game jam.

In Deadly Tower you rise up through a high tower on a lift. On all sides you have enemies firing at you and you must defend yourself with a bazooka loaded with plenty amounts of ammo. You only have one life and there is no escape but to continue upwards.

The current version has three levels and there is both DirectX 9 and 10 versions available for download on the game page.

Try out the game and let us hear what you think of it. Your feedback is important to us!

This seems like a cool concept, though the graphics aren't great :P
are you gonna add modability? or is there already modability?

Gonna download this now.

Modability is technically possible but it's not something that is planned for the first bunch of releases. The gameplay needs to evolve before further decissions are made.

neat concept, but it's to easy (even with the mouse backwards!)!

Thanks! And yes, it needs a bit testing on the difficulty side. Imagine if the game had a lot more levels with increasing difficulty - then you would be in trouble at some point :)

I am looking in to the problem some have with not being able to invert the y-axis.

Is there any particular reason this is a separate game vs a mod for an existing game? IE learning experiment for making a game?

I want to say add some variety, but that could easily bog down the concept with complexity, which wouldn't make it any fun. Perhaps some action/upbeat/drum music! :)

Seperate games are much easier to distribute. Not everybody has HL2 (or other mod-able game) so I prefer to make stand-alone games.

I have some ideas on how to add more variety to the game. But the basic concept is the whole tower idea.

Well played it... and completed it in 5 minutes or so :P
very short, it was also easy yeah, but nice concept, this could turn into something great one day.

the DX9/10 hype/demand doesnt look realistic, looks more like a DirectX5 game to me

ehm I took a look at some pics of DirectX5, you are horribly wrong, but yeah most of the features are probably wasted on the game in it's current state, but this is just a first version, who knows how awesome it will look if more time was spent on level design and effects?

i don't think the DX level ever has any relation to the quality of the game's graphics (any game), just what it's, at most, capable of. IE if pacman were written today for DX, it would be DX 9 or 10, but still be a 2d sprite game.

Yes, I actually deactivated a lot of the bling stuff for this release to ensure maximum stability and speed. Graphics does not come first for this game. The engines used can't go below DX9 and DX10.

Any reason in particular as to why you've posted an FPS Creator game on ModDB?

Of course :) People here are very open to new concepts. Play something different, you know :)

Engine looks good already!

But I didn't like the game itself or the concept of it. I just don't see any future for it!

Not so sure about the concept myself; the vertical idea needs some thought to work well.

As it is, the player is always at a big disadvantage to enemies - enemies can get a good shot at the player long before the player can get a good shot at the enemies.

At the moment, the only reason it's possible for the player to win easily is because the enemies are so weak, in damage, health and intelligence. Easy enemies like this aren't satisfying to kill, but if you increase any of their attributes to make it satisfying it's going to become impossible for the player.

Besides this, gameplay will get fairly tedious quite fast without some change in the game dynamic.

On the other hand, if you can improve the vertical dynamic into something workable, this could end up very original.

who says vertical has to be going up? :P
if you were to go down, you would be able to get a good shot at them skeletons, then the difficulty could be upped, so being slow at taking out the skeletons is gonna hurt alot once they get a good shot at you.
