Post news Report RSS Cube Arena - New graphic engine (with 16.777.216 different colors!)

Cube Arena is a futuristic open-world, action/construction game in development for Windows. Players can explore the universe, discover new planets, fight with hundreds of strange creatures and take place in an hostile world. By using Cubik (A 3d tool included into Cube Arena), players can imagine and create new characters, new objects and decors and put them into their game.

I'm currently working on improving Cube Arena Graphic Engine. Until now Cube Arena was able to support 32 different colored cube. I want to allow players to use as many different colors as they want, so the new engine will support 16.777.216 different colors (255 * 255 * 255 colors).

If you are familiar with the RGB format, this means you will be able to use all existing rgb colors.

I just tried it and it worked well, but I have to rewrite the saving/loading system, and some other stuff, so I can't upload it this week. It will probably be available next week.

Here are some screenshots that shows what you can do with those new colors :

As always, you can download the latest version for free here :

Enjoy :)

Why only 32 colors before? Call me paranoid, but that sounds suspiciously like the limitations of a voxel engine originally designed to run on a Commodore Amiga.... (I have NO idea of such a voxel engine even exists, or did exist, BTW.)

Oh good question actually. The problem was not about "how to display tons of different colors", the problem was about "how to allow users to build, construct, and use tons of different colors".

Display colors is simple, allow users to interact using millions of colors, and to save/load them in real time was the real deal ;)
