Today, we release the first public alpha of our block-matching game with a twist. Don't roll your eyes, it's an actual, honest to god twist. Read on to find out more.

For the past few months, we've been working on a project close to our hearts: a block-matching game that's part Tetris, part Lumines, and all us. We call it Pulses, mostly because the name Pulse was already in use, or had been parked, everywhere relevant.

Many control mechanism iterations, many grid designs, and a whole lot of blocks were cruelly harmed in the process, but cry not for their pain: they sacrificed themselves so that you may experience the joy of being our test subjects for the final Alpha that we are releasing today, in this very post.
If you're feeling adventurous, and don't feel like reading about the game you're about to play:

Pulses - Final Alpha

Or alternatively, click on this link for the web version (Unity player required)

Here's a little visual taste of the main game mode::

Now, the boring stuff: the game currently only runs in 1280x720, and only in windowed mode on Windows, so make sure your display can cover at least that many pixels before running the final Alpha.

Once you select a piece, you can click to send it to its destination, or freely drag it across the board until you're happy with its position. Once you've arranged your pieces, hit the ‘Pulse' button to clear the matches, and score some points. Try not to run out of time, or space.

This public preview contains all four game modes; Journey is limited to two worlds and eight levels, while Endless, Death From Above and Chaos are limited to four levels each. You can play the available levels as much as you like, for as long as you like, and we'd appreciate it if you let us know what you liked, or didn't like, about the game, along with any bugs you encounter along the way.

We are also looking to build up a team of dedicated testers for Pulses' beta, and for other upcoming projects. If you're interested in participating, drop us a line at info@venturascience.com and we'll get you initiated into our supersecret testers-only forum of which we have already said too much.

Leave a comment, use our contact form, or yell your comments at the skies; we can't wait to hear from you!
