If you're an active follower of this game then you'll probably have noticed the decrease in activity over the past month or two; I'll explain why. I was offered a position as a Level Designer full-time (I do freelance Level Design, if you were wondering) and accepted it. Flew out and worked for a month while living in a hotel so no real internet for the most part. I'm living in my new apartment by now though, even have my little kitties with me too. Still working on the game in my free time at this point; a little slower on the updates but still coming.
Cut to now and it's crunch time at work so I'm working 12 hours a day. So 12 hours of work, 8 hours of sleep, an hour giver or take to get ready in the morning and get to work. Leaves around 3 hours free time a day. As you can imagine, not a whole lot of dev time going on. Don't worry though, I'm still working on the game, I'll probably only be doing an update post every now and then when there is a large chunk of new features. If you have a tumblr or like to check them out, I also post updates there (usually smaller updates more frequently than the larger ones here) at: Veshchsev.tumblr.com
tl;dr - I'm at work a lot right now but I'm still working on the game in the few hours of free time I have. Updates will be sporadic but I'll keep you all in the loop.
So.. for which engine do you design levels on?
Most of my work is for Unreal/UDK, but I've also used Unity and some in-house stuff before.
Ahh, true enough.
Congrats
Thanks, appreciate it.
Good luck to you! I alwayss enjoy the updates on this neat looking little game, but that is hands down the best reason to hear why its slowed up! I hope all goes well at your new post!
How does one get into freelance level designer? Word of mouth? Do you advertise on some website?
Look around at different forums like polycount, udk forums if you use udk, and other sites that people put up positions they're looking to fill. If you have a portfolio there are usually places on those sites for you to advertise those as well. It's a mix between looking for work and having people message you after hearing about or seeing your work. If you don't have a portfolio yet then there are usually groups of people making games for fun that you could try to join up with and gain some experience and something for a portfolio.
