The 4th article for our upcoming game, "The Fisherman".

Posted by on

Hello everyone!

It's time for another devlog for our upcoming game, "The Fisherman".

In this fourth article, we'll go through our 3D model of the story's main ship, "Maria da Glória". In addition, we'll show you more fishing minigame improvements, this time with some UI already in place.

3D Model (Initial Blockout) -» "Maria da Glória" ⛵

The ship "Maria da Glória" will be the setting for the most of the game. On this ship, the player will be able to do the regular activities of Portuguese fisherman during cod fishing days. In addition to these activities and the exploring of the ship itself, this is where the narrative aspect comes into play the most, as we will need to interact with other fisherman in order to progress through the game.

To develop the model of this ship, we took into account numerous ships of the time (you can see the moodboards here). This 3D model that we are going to show you is simply one of the first iterations we made, something like an initial blockout. We will update you as soon as we have more material!

Fishing Minigame 🎣 -» Water shader and UI

After we had the movement of the "Dóris" and the 3D model of it, along with the cod moving in the water, we needed to add a few more details. We ended up making a water shader, and now the water has movement, with some small waves.

Additionally, we started applying the minigame's UI. Now it is possible to have the precession of when we hook a cod, followed by a click bar to simulate pulling the fish out of the water. Plus, we added some UI directly in the environment. For example, when you catch a cod, it remains inside the boat, forming a pile.

That's it for this devlog!

Thank you for reading, and we hope you will continue with us on this adventure over the Nordic seas as a fisherman. Stay tuned for more updates!
