Light update on things related to the mod; going over current happenings, and a little bit of what is next up.

Posted by on

Hey all, just a quick update to break the silence. Still working on the mod, don't worry.

Ambience and music

Right now I'm focusing my efforts to collect music and get a sound design folder going on. I have been putting down more story onto my design doc, and have been doing sketches of environments. Right now I'm working on a few areas that relate to each other as I nail down the theme of this section of the mod. The Common Study area (seen in my early screens) is basically done, but is still subject to changes. It links to a few areas and that's what I'm doing now, as well as prologue stuff. I'll have more screens to show once they're done (first among those will be the Prayer Cells when I've completed the upper levels).

I am still very much in the thick of story boarding the environments and play spaces. If what I have now holds throughout the project, the mod will likely be broken into a prologue with around two maps, four chapters containing about 14-20 maps in total, and an epilogue with probably one or two maps. Not sure how that will translate into length of play, but I'll be able to give a better estimate when more progress is made.

For now I am kind of ramping up given that I'm cooped up at home during this pandemic, and have nothing better to do than study and work on the mod if I'm not working.

Kind of a light update, I know, but just wanted to reassure anyone that was worried that we are still alive. For now, be safe, be clean, and feel free to contact my project email or just leave a comment with questions or advice!

Hey, a piece of advice from someone who has been there.

Don't start planning with the quantity of many maps you will make. Otherwise you will end up with many maps which will be empty because you won't have ideas for putting content in them. This subsequently results in struggling with finishing those maps and loss of motivation.

Instead, plan the story first. Then plan what maps you're gonna need to tell that story, and only then plan the maps themselves, along with the gameplay you're gonna put in them.

I've done both of these approaches and I can't stress this enough; the first one is terrible, both for the mod and for your morale.

Anywyay, good luck with the development!
