Ultionus: A Tale of Petty Revenge

Game review

A throwback to the 90s is a great descriptor for this simulated dos product.

The action platformer is solid, with a great music score, attractive sprite based presentation, and a tacky/juvinile base storyline that finds it impossible to overstay its welcome (almost seems to satire the requirement of most games to require a storyline, and it is rewarding in its simplicity.)

While the games length may not please many (you can easily beat the game within an hour), I personally find charm in the fact I can pick up the game, play it, and put it down. It currently has three modes of play (all of which are difficulties) ranging from easy (unlimited continues extra damage) to hardcore (one continue starting, and normal damage).

The level designs are interesting due to the multi-route potential that they provide. My only issue would be the final stage does not represent the same complexity that previous stages did. (It is shorter, and could have deviated the formula with more possible routes through it) That is really a trivial issue as all the platforming sections of the game split into two routes (a direct, and a rewarding), and from a design perspective consistency does work, I am just not a huge personal fan of stages oriented primarily around an auto scrolling elevator. (personal gripes)

As stated before, while the length of the game may pose a issue for some, and replay value is pretty much oriented toward speedrunning, score attack, and just seeing what it would be like to go down one set of upgrades or the other since you cannot max out both. The action you see in the trailer is what you get. Its solid, enjoyable, and if that is your cup of tea, then I highly recommend it. I can't fault folks for waiting for sales, and if they happen, I highly recommend jumping on them.

I have spent over 50 total hours mastering the game in its current form, and do not regret the 10 dollar price tag.

Everlasting Tower

Game review

You get what you pay for with this game. And what you pay for is a very entertaining experience. The controls are crisp (baring a few issues), the art style is just that, styalized. I have had alot of fun playing this title, but what brings the rating down a few points is the lack of variety, and options. With the way the game scales itself, there is a lack of variety in obsticals, and various elements that obscure your progress.

This in its self is not a terrible flaw, given the pricepoint that is requested for the game. The problem is that it might not appeal to everyone. If you want a deep platformer, this game may not satiate your thirst for such things. What the game does do is give players a great opportunity to test their luck, reflexes, and skills in a competative score based environment. As of the time of this review, I hold the top score (hardcore mode), which was a blast to try and accomplish given the tendency to stop the player with cheap placements >:D

One thing I have noticed is that the true way to play the game is found in its hardcore mode as I find that to be the most rewarding challenge the game has to offer. Bottom-line? The game is worth the two bucks for me, and I will continue to suggest the game to others in my youtube and twitch community. Unfortunately, what you see is what you get in videos. The game does not offer alot, but what it does offer is golden. Thanks 7soul, I have spent hours on this title and they have been very fun.

Heroes of a Broken Land

Game review

*Update from original review*

Folks, I was critical of the original product back in Alpha 1.0 because I wanted to see this succeed. Now that the game has been officially released I can honestly say that placing approximately 5 hours into my first campaign in a while, I stand impressed.

The game is leaps and bounds better than its original release, due to the massive expansion of content.

What you get with this purchase is a randomly generated world, complete with several dungeons (all of which are random too). The dungeons (and monster encounters) are handled in your typical OS (Old School) dungeon crawl complete with loot, secret doors (handled nicely BTW thank you so much for adding them), and devious traps. While the overworld map, is now officially MUCH more interesting.

Through the coarse of my five hour session, I managed to see elements of turn based strategy involved in the manipulation of several parties over the map. Some parties were created exclusively to fend off invading monsters on my land, while others were utilized to complete the variety of quest objectives that spawn as the game progressed.

There is an impressive amount of depth in this faithful addition to the Dungeon Crawl Genre that I highly recommend picking up. Stop reading this review, and buy the game already. At the very least, play the demo. The game is freshman friendly, while still maintaining a challenge appropriate to old school veterans like myself. Highly entertaining, highly recommended.

Paranautical Activity

Game review

I was sold off the preview video. After playing it for 30 minutes, I have discovered that the potential of an amazing quality Rogue-Like themed game you have here is amazing. With the understanding that this is currently in beta, I understand that you have alot of room to grow, and you are currently on the right track for a very great and fun experience.

Keep up the good work, this game was a blast my first time, and it still maintains a strong level of enjoyment. I encourage everyone interested in a solid FPS action experience to jump on this game.
