Purchased DawnStar on IndieGameStand..
Just now tried activating on Desura..
Desura is giving error message saying key is NO GOOD.
Developer site is DEAD. Wraithent.com
Last developer post on FaceBook dates Jun-2013.

So:
I guess Wraith Entertainment is dead, Dawnstar is dead... and getting a Desura key isn't going to be possible?

Considering this game.

Clicking thru the publisher link - Excerpt from the marketing double speak:

"The company brings together a highly motivated team of people with many years of experience in the industry that is passionate for gaming.

On the comment about a highly motivated team. I see it took a month and 10 days to respond to a question. Not good.

On the global aspect, selling everything under the sun.... That's really a negative. (It's too easy to get spread too thin).

You need to focus on the CUSTOMER, their needs and wants.

You need to respond to questions promptly.
You need to post info about patches, address customers concerns.
You need to maintain "Contact" with the customer base.. touch base with them often.

Are you able to remap the key bindings?
Does it support controllers?
How many patch versions have been issued in the past year?
What is the history of these patches (What issues were addressed)
What KIND of DRM is used? to "protect' the key? Gamersgate lists it as "other".
Will it be a problem installing to another PC?
How many PC's (personal PC's) are you allowed to install it to?

What "engine" is the game using? (Useful to know if a problem is occurring)
Is there a website in which you can directly obtain patches thru? vs auto patching?
Does game have auto-patching, with the ability to:
A: Block "Auto-Patching (If game is working perfect- why patch it?)
B: Have option to let the CUSTOMER revert to a previously working install if a "patch" screws something up.

Are the config, other files "locked down"?
Is the game "MOD" friendly?

What is the address /contact info for the "support site"?

Re: Will those purchasing via IGS (IndieGameStand) right now receive a STEAM KEY?

A: When you redeem a game on Desura, you become alpha owner which means, when game will get on Steam you get a Steam key, just like every other alpha owner.
********************

Thank you for the confirmation and the prompt response, bought the game a few minutes ago.
(A while back I think I ran across your site, glad to see you getting some exposure, had totally forgot about Inverto until I saw it on IGS.)

Will vote for it to be Greenlite on Steam.
Note: I use STEAM due to the convenience, but I would prefer and did download the DRM FREE VERSION.

I hope you keep a DRM FREE VERSION of the game available when Inverto is Greenlit on STEAM.

2013 STEAMPIPE "update", revamp of file system.
OS Windows 7 x64

Q:

Here recently I fired up various Half-Life 2 based mods and found out all of them have been broken by the 2013 STEAMPIPE "update". Reminds of 2009/2010 when STEAM revamped the game engine... which BROKE and killed off quite a few mods.

Has this problem been addressed yet with this mod (Or is it even a problem?)

PS: What is the process to get GoldenEye Source back up and running if this is the case?

The glorious SteamPipe "update" of 2013 has broken all my mods.
Error! Can't find background image materials/console/startup_loading.vtf

STEAM should:
A: Be required to publish detailed (Visual) walkthroughs of the process to get mods back up and running.
B: Made a exe that automates the process.
They (Steam) know damm well SteamPipe would break all the mods..

HEY STEAM, it's the MODS that keep the series /IP alive during the years between content releases! Way to screw over long time customers, yet once again!

Q 1: Is the author of this mod working on a FIX? (repackaging the mod)

Q 2: Info in the below thread is confusing, can anyone expand on the process?

Google
"/app/420/discussions/0/864971765497379056"

"SteamPipe fix for HL2 and EP2 mods"

Peter "τhε hοsτ" Hisham [has Half-Life 2: Episode Two] Jun 28, 2013 @ 3:04pm

Excerpt:
So, the new SteamPipe system just came to remind modders and gamers of the May 2010 and August 2010 updates to the Source Engine, which made a lot of mods stop working.

The SteamPipe system improved the HL2 games, but all mods that use assets from those games were broken.

I came up with a temporary fix (until someone comes with a better and more effective one) that isn't really mine. This fix is NOT 100% FUNCTIONAL, so don't blame me if it breaks your mod installation.

I already have the mod installed and I'm not familiar with navigating Desura - so the info might already be posted but I have a suggestion.

Suggestion is:
Post the CRC /MD5 /HASH of the files so people can VERIFY the download "downloaded" correctly and the file hasn't been "tampered" with...
(Size of the file would be nice-I've noticed Desura does not tell you how big the download will be, or did I miss that?
STEAM does...)

Anyhow,

Hashtab which calculates MD5, SHA1, SHA2, RipeMD, HAVAL and Whirlpool is free and works well and uses no resources while idle. The way it works is you just right click the file in question and it shows the hash - then you compare it to the published value. If it matches you know the file is good.

Oh, Hashtab is a life saver when doing downloads in which you might not "run", or "install" the file for a while... It allows you to VERIFY the file downloaded correctly RIGHT THEN instead of finding out LATER after you've forgotten where you downloaded it from the file got corrupted. :-(

**************************
HasbTab:

HashTab provides OS extensions to calculate file hashes and supports many hash algorithms such as MD5, SHA1, SHA2, RipeMD, HAVAL and Whirlpool. In windows HashTab runs as a Windows shell extension and on the Mac it is implemented as a Finder plugin. Hashtab provides an easy way to verify file integrity and authenticity

Q: Is going thru the sub the only way to the Depot?

Yep, add some type of lighting. As it's clear the sub has no power maybe adds some "Cracks" in the hull where daylight is streaming in to light up things a bit...these lighted sections leading the player out of the sub.
(Been playing FPS for many years (Since DOOM) and that submarine if that is the only way to the "Depot" is going to turn alot of people off. Can't see anything and it all blends in together.)
Persons that are used to the "newer" games in which the path is obvious are for sure not going to like that sub, and the lack of waypoints for a lack of a better word.

BTW: I'm stuck. After maybe going 200ft thru the sub after you go down a set of steps- then there's a short hallway with the end of a large (non-rusted IIRC) cylinder blocking the path. Can't go under it, or over it. Used rockets thinking maybe I'm supposed to knock it loose. (Just get killed doing that). Backtracked and found the skeleton, with radiation, Is the way out thru that room somehow?

How do you get out of the sub?

Suggestion:

Always publish the HASH VALUE of the file(s)!
EG: CRC, MD5, SHA1, SHA2, RipeMD, HAVAL and or Whirlpool

It's really the ONLY way to VERIFY a file has downloaded *CORRECTLY (Without running the app/opening the ISO in this case) - or to VERIFY the file hasn't been TAMPERED with.

*Ever downloaded a file, and upon running it later find out it's CORRUPT... and you can't remember where you got it from? Right click on the file and within a short time hash value is displayed and you'll know right away!

Silden,

I'm not a fan of DRM.

Q: Does the Desura version of Chernobyl Commando contain DRM, if so which kind and version number?

If it does what is the time frame to patch it out?

Oh, Are regular patches going to be posted here on Desura, or does the game auto-upate?

PS: If the game does auto-update - is there going to be a way to toggle that OFF, and or have a option to ROLL-BACK if the update breaks something?

As mentioned prior STEAM pushed a update which broke alot of mods and there was no way to "Roll-Back" to a prior working state.

Part 2 of 2

5 STEAM = IIRC back in May-2010 they made changes in the Source engine which broke alot of mods. I realize updates are needed -and for online players you need to have everyone running the same version - but for SINGLEPLAYER off-line games they need to put coding in that:

A: Give the CUSTOMER the OPTION of reverting to a prior working install, along with the game engine /Steam being coded to have a POP-UP appear after a game has become "problematic" after a pushed "update".

Customer should be given the option to revert back to a prior working installation.

EG: For Off-line games they could use the the old, or the new (problematic) engine.

6 GameFly - Put in (1) tech ticket on a payment issue and never heard back from them.

As you can imagine having games scattered across various vendors is a PAIN.

Ended up going with Desura for the following reasons:

1: IIRC the man behind Moddb is behind Desura. Talked with him personally a while back and he was responsive. Like the concept the installation and maintenance? of mods being in one place (I have not used this feature- all the Mods I got off Moddb where old-school installed =Manually.
(Old school, like the manual copy process, but if I'm correct in what I read about Desura here and there having the auto update function has positives.
2: I saw your responses here on Desura, having a developer who personally responds to issues is a definite selling point.

(When I see mfg's on Newegg.com responding to issues on bad hardware - I tend to by from that MFG than one who does not respond.)

Silden,

Bought the game, in process of downloading it now. (First purchase thru Desura)

Was debating the purchase thru Desura for the following reasons vs GreenManGaming - not really wanting to add another place I'd have my game purchases thru:

1: Amazon = (Great company- They stand behind the stuff they sell - Have a problem and the "attitude" is,.. there is NO attitude. They say so sorry, do you want to get it replaced, or do you want your money back?... with them issuing a pre-paid RMA shipping label to return Defective merchandise )

2: GamersGate= ( Weak bulletin board, Gamersgate seems to run out of "Keys" alot- and does not post a "Hey, we ran out of keys response on xzy game and we expect to obtain keys by xyz date.

3: GreenManGaming = They use a downloader which I think is based off the Amazon downloader called "Capsule (which is fine) it works.
Have several concerns with GreenManGaming:
A: They do NOT state what DRM xyz uses (On games that use the Capsule downloader /interface) The way info about Capsule is worded it leaves you to believe that the only "DRM" is the Capsule app. (It was only after about 5-6 tech tickets, that I finally got a answer about a ancient game called Deus Ex GOTY edition if it had DRM embedded in it. EG: It does- and this is NOT disclosed prior to purchase.

4: Origin - Had to call them to merge two accounts, got the problem resolved in (1) phone call. Got disconnected towards the end of the calll and received a call back.

Downloading via the Moddb servers directly the file size is reported as 2.6GB, vs 108mb it was listed as being on GameFront/GameSpot.

LONG Story short, make sure the file is coming off the Moddb server or go directly to GameFront to dowload.

As others are reporting

File at GameFront needs to be RELOADED, it's corrupt.

If you get rolled over to GameFront.com file size is around 100mb or so.

PS Gamefront's description field says 108mb or so instead of 2,700 +/- so it's NOT a case I'm getting a corrupted download.

If you do a Google search and do directly to their page it's (1) file (Data), about 3.07GB, a separate installer exe for those that need a installer (808kb), and a MD5 Hash file.

(Which is a NICE touch...
Hint, Hint - People should list the hash values of files as that is the ONLY way to VERIFY the file hasn't been tampered with, or is corrupt in some way.)

What is ironic, started downloading from the above link (I think) and right after that I tried the above Moddb Download NOW button again and connected to the Moddb servers instead of GameFront and size is reported as 2.6GB so the Gamefront file the above link rolls you over is corrupt.

* Community "Mods" as in total conversions or mods as you see in offline singleplayer games which greatly extend the life and interest of the franchise IMO.

Q: Will the ability to play in SINGLEPLAYER MODE be added in the near future? EG: Bots added, etc.

Adding such would increase the products appeal.
(You pick up sales from offline FPS shooter fans, and it allows those that are interested in online gaming to "practice" with bots.)

Q: @ 15 months since your last post what is the scuttlebutt on this issue? Under consideration?, actively being worked on?, or dead?

Q: Is it possible in it's current multiplayer mode only version to play, or should I say "WANDER" thru the maps? (EG: Explore /become familiar with the maps without being online).

Q: Any chance on those that have purchased the current multiplayer only version via STEAM to get the singleplayer update for free?
EG: it rolls out as a patch instead of DLC.

Question:

The Half-Life2 EP 1/2? mod MINERVA Metastasis -which got Adam Foster, AKA Cargocult the creator of same a job with Valve Inc was broken by a engine "update" -right at 2yrs ago.
(May-2010)

On the now defunct Minerva forum Hylobatidae.org Adam stated he was working on a PATCH.

Where is the "official" mod creator "patch"?

I ask because Minerva was a great mod- and that with Adam's knowledge of Minerva and DIRECT connections to those that did the engine "update" him fixing it would take 1/100 the time of someone on the "outside".

Find it strange that when I asked "Varsity" which posted a "un-official" patch for the game when asked about how much time it took to create a patch-he said it didn't take that long.... And the CREATOR of the mod, with his DIRECT contacts at Valve Inc to those that re-wrote the game engine which broke Minerva can't spare the time to issue a proper (official) patch.

Sort a slap in the face to the mod that got him the job, those persons who for a lack of a better word supported /reviewed /raved about /posted about Minerva which got it noticed by Valve Inc if someone on the outside can create a patch- and he can't with his resources.

In most cases patch will allow playing thru the section noted in the above screenshot.

My experience with the patch (Which I uploaded here in both zip and exe formats)

Crashing went from 100% of the time to around maybe 2%.

Crash occurs as soon as you step thru doorway.

*******

Sort of a loss right now on a step by step on what to do besides the standard stuff:

A: Uninstall mod- delete mod directory, re-install.
B: Update your video drivers (longshot)
C: Defrag, scan hd for errors/bad sectors.
D: Disconnect from net. Uninstall Half-life2 completely, re-install from physical disc-

Once re-installed -disable "auto-update", so the game uses the old, Pre-May 2010 engine.
(In this scenario no patch will be needed- and all your old mods should work.)

E: If installing from physical dsic is not possible and STEAM auto installs "new" game engine...or above doesn't work
Change game settings to EASY (to minimize number of enemies.)

Part 1 of 2
This is from memory- as I haven't played for a while.

Steam /Valve around May-2010 pushed out a non-reversible (cough-cough) "update" to the game engine that screwed up a bunch of mods.

(Thanks Steam, push a update and make it so you can't roll back if there's problems with it.(LOL)

Hey Steam/Valve... keep in mind it's the MODS that's kept people interested (buying) the core game(s) between the YEARS that go by it takes for the next "official" episode to come out.

You guys need to code the "new" engine to "fall-back" to the old engine /have new engine emulate old engine /allow someone to roll-back to a previous version.)

According to Adam Foster, the creator of Minerva Metastas one of the changes was the "new" engine can't "track" for a lack of a better word as many enemies /events as the old engine could... Hence the crashing when too many enemies are around.
(In some of my previous posts- I have a link to Adams posts explaining the problems- along with references by Adam saying he would issue a "patch" to patch the mod. In my travels on the net I never found the promised patch.)

With Mr Foster's talent (Creating Minerva) and DIRECT access to those that coded the "new" engine- Since Adam works at Valve it would probably take him 1/100 the time to issue a proper patch... than those who are "on the outside".

Sort of a shame the mod that got him the job- doesn't have a "*official patch".

Wish Valve would give him some TIME to patch Metastasis-
(Mr Foster stated he was working on a patch on his forum)

Seems to me with Mr Fosters inside knowledge of the mod itself- with him having DIRECT contact of the programmers that wrote the Source 2006 and 2009 engine, or at least the 2009 engine that a "official patch" could be done faster than persons on the "outside" of Valve who do not have DIRECT accesss to those programers.

I noticed that during the few times I played the "official" Valve Half-Life 2 games- they aren't crashing..

Another crash with 2011_02_08_metastasis_patch_2011.zip patch.

No error message on screen.

(I would assume the game engine keeps a log?- If so let me know- I'd be happy to forward it.
Related- if you have any pull with Valve- If the logs indicate that a customer is experiencing lock-ups after a engine "update" - the engine should sense this and offer the customer to run the engine in some type of compatibility mode/ run the old WORKING engine.)

Location of crash? Crashes (HARD lockup with sound looping) after hitting the switch the combine guy blows the door... Game crashed hard right after passing thru blown door at top of stairs as show in link for metastas-11-04-2010-patch-exe below.

PS: This is the SAME spot that Metastasis started crashing after the May-2010 "update".
(Episode One's upgrade from Source 2006 to 2009)

* Adam Foster /CargoCult the creator of Metastasis stated on his forum the new engine has problems tracking? too many enemies. He said the new engine wasn't as robust.

*Note the Metastas-11-04-2010-patch-exe patch RUNS perfectly.
Fresh install- Not loading from "saves" from Metastas-11-04-2010-patch-exe directory.
