Not a big fan about posting profile bios, but I guess I'll do one. I'm a PC gamer fan and not that big on console. I like to modify games for personal use but sometimes start up mini projects. I love to create levels. Oh and I'm not afraid to tell you to your face if I think your level/mod needs improving. I also tend to hang out on the ZP:S forums alot (best game ever). I will try and help you out even if no one else will.

Any possibility we might see this as a way for developers to work with you to have an alternative to Steam's Workshop?

The Workshop feature has proven to be quite the selling point on why you should buy a game like Starbound on their platform rather than the DRM free version from say Gog or Humble. Even though you can install mods on the DRM free version it has extra steps involved and requires you to manually check to make sure your mods are up to date.

Nexus of course already has their own alternative to this but it's a third party client. A library developers could integrate directly into their games would be an awesome feature to have.

"But we want to believe that there is still a community of gamers out there, who want an open gaming site, that embodies DRM free principles and allows anyone to create and share content they are working on, without restriction."

So what exactly is going to set this apart from Mod/Indie DB? GameFront/FileFront were badly organized file sharing services aimed at games, Mod DB and Indie DB fulfill this role quite well now. There is a reason they went under and you did not.

FileFront was great back then because you could do large file sharing for free, now there's plenty of services that do that and like you said yourselves there is no longer a need to download something like a trailer or game patch.

What is going to make someone want to release their content on GameFront over your already established sites, Nexus Mods, or even Steam Workshop? Unless this is going to lead to another download and install management client that is strictly aimed at modding and DRM free games I can not see any kind of selling point on this.

I believe the original creator of the mod ran off with all the money from that indie go go. Your best bet is to track him down and file a civil suit if you want that money back.

All of those are things that both Steam and Desura provide.

Both have group chat and friend system.

Both provide version control and do not require end users to download the update manually.

You can easily post news and announcements in both about development.

I honestly see no point in using your launcher. You are needlessly reinventing the wheel.

As others have voiced this is way too many hoops to play a hl2 mod. Why not just use one of the many other clients that are available? Is there something this client provides that others do not?

Am I the only one who is slightly disturbed that you can claim to be a free mod during greenlight then change to a full blown game once you get greenlit?

Most people who voted were voting on the assumption it would be a 100% free mod like No More Room in Hell and Neotokyo.

I don't blame them for wanting to go indie rather then mod but that should have been cleared up prior to greenlight voting.

If any Source Engine mod team should go commercial it's your team. So far you've put out nothing but great mods and From Earth has some really interesting things going for it.

I don't suppose you could go over VGUI some in a video tutorial by any chance?

I've been working on a custom player model selection menu for the open source mod I'm working on and I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong when it comes to the VGUI.

Personally not a fan. Looks too much like a Flash game menu IMO (which I guess makes sense seeing as it's made in flash).

Also didn't Adobe stop Flash support on Linux? Won't this affect porting of the game to it?

Lot more "Great and in High Demand" then I expected. Personally I've only seen the Just Cause 2 mod really succeed in that, others like the Fallout and Oblivion ones didn't really work out all that well.

wazanator @ Faceless - The New Year's Update (2014)

Not a fan of this announcement.

What started out as a free mod being greenlit on Steam is being picked up by a completely different team and being sold. That's kind of a really ****** thing to do IMO. Not to mention what got it greenlit was people expecting a free multiplayer horror mod based on Slender. And from the sound of it you still don't even have a proper programmer. How can you think to switch to indie when you don't have even what some would consider the most important job role filled?

wazanator @ Indie of The Year 2013

I don't see the problem here. If a non-finished game is beating a finished game in both popularity and customer satisfaction then that's the developers of the finished games problem not the competitions.

If what you call a finished product isn't even placing against betas and alphas maybe it's time to go back to the drawing board and rethink your next step.

What exactly is the difference here between releasing a game and then providing a ton of patches like Valve did with TF2(fixed bugs and added content) and releasing early and providing a ton of patches(that fix bugs and add content)?

wazanator @ Indie of The Year 2013

" Any developer who has released their completed game within the last 12 months and lost out to a game in Alpha deserves to be disappointed in my opinion."

How so? I think that disappointment is justified if a finished game can't stand up to a beta/alpha.
