I've been working as a graphic designer for many years within advertising, TV, web design and marketing. In 2012 I launched Uncommon to promote my own work within games, design and music.

Submitted to iTunes: the wait begins

Uncommon Blog

"The Grid" becomes "Enter The Grid" on the iTunes store. Ah well, it's always the way. Something had to go not according to plan. Managed to create and upload the app without ever touching a mac ;) I feel a tutorial may even be in the pipeline!

Everything finished so I'm off for a well earned break. Hope to bring you news of the full and lite version in the next few days. Until then it's lots of dear Esther and a glass or two of something cold.

The Grid: the demo is out!

Uncommon Blog

The wait is almost over and I'm happy to say that the demo is out! Why not check it out via my website, I'd really love to hear your feedback.

Well I said it was the last of the late nights. I guess I lied again. 2:30 in the morning, which is early for me of late. Releasing games can seriously inflate the bags below your eyes.

21:42 and the Grid has gone gold!

Why does the number 42 keep cropping up in the game. Maybe it means something. It very probably means nothing at all and I have read "The hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy" too many times.

The demo will be on-line tomorrow ready for the full release. My first submission to the iTunes store... Mmmm, sure that will be a learning curve.

Normally beddy byes tonight. I can be a normal human being again. Here that wizard? "There's no place like home... There's no place like home." I've gone peculiar now.

Till next time.

I'm tired... So tired...

It's the last stages and I'm starting to lag. The light at the end of the tunnel is within reach, but doesn't seem to get any closer. Now my desk is covered with a series of lists. This morning there was only three things left to do... five ticks later there are still three things to do. I want to stop making lists, but it's the only way to see how close I am to the end.

Beer has not passed my lips in ages... Week off next week. Time for a rest. And a beer. Beer and a rest. Oh and some bad movies... I want to watch some bad movies.

...And ice cream.

So very tired.

I really hope this will be the end of the late nights.

4:30 finish this morning. 2 cups of coffee and a brisk walk round the garden and I'm starting to feel human again. I am regularly accosted by a strange otherworldly homeless looking guy in the bathroom. Of course it's me in the mirror. You knew that all along. It's an attempt at comedy and genuine pathos. Not worthy of Shakespeare, but I've had very little sleep.

So what is the outcome of such a very late night? It pays dividends for the game, but not so much for my outward appearance it would seem. Thankfully it's bought me two days to do some nice finishing touches, but the game is pretty much done. Can I hold out till Friday?

Now to pick out my launch party frock. Orange and blue are my two signature colours. Garish or what?

Till next time.

Looks like development will end in the next 24/48 hours allowing for the demo to be released this Wednesday. Development can be a lonely place, but really focuses the mind. Hopefully I will have defined my last variable and checked my last array by the end of the evening.

It's always scary and exciting in the few days before release. Certainly a daunting time waiting for the reviews to come through. I have a week of trying to break the game, find the bugs and put the code to bed.

Friday night I get my life back for a long weekend before the launch of the next project. I certainly would like to put some serious time aside to play the new Dear Esther. As a developer you sometimes forget to take the time to play other peoples games. Ah well, Journey comes to PSN in March and I hope to hear a bit more about Frictional's next project. Oooh and Pid releases soon. Aren't indie games just damn sexy!

Till tomorrow. Hope to have some good news for you.
