When in game, after you enable multiplayer, go to the Multiplayer settings, select your player and hit enter. You will toggle to "Host Mode". This means that you don't need to worry about radiation, oxygen, or Venator attacks.
You sill still need to turn off observer mode from your visitors.

If you don't have the Xbox controller setup for your PC, I strongly recommend it. XenooMiner likes it from first load and playing is so much easier (especially if you have the Xbox version).

Important notes about Daisy on the PC version -
She has the left and right mouse buttons mixed up.
The MULE interface is "E", not "I" and the miniforge is "R" - note that this change allows all of the most used keys to be accessed easily by the left hand.
If you don't have the XBOX Wireless USB adapter to use the XBOX 360 controller on your PC, I strongly recommend it. It works with Xenominer 2.0 with no tweeks.

So, the Microsoft Encoder isn't as good for highdef recording. In fact, it won't record fullscreen nor will it record sound on my system because I don't have a sound card (I have Bose USB). I did a bit more searching and I found FRAPS. Originally a frame rate recorder for benchmarking, it turned into a very easy to use recorder.
You can download it from www.fraps.com.. The demo will only record in 30 second segments, but the full release is only $37.
I'll upload a sample later this morning.

If you're just starting, turn Peaceful mode on (USer Options), and be sure to follow Daisy's tutorials. This will explain many things. However, be aware that she has the left and right mouse buttons reversed and the interface controls are now different.
I also recommend that you invest in the XBOX 360 USB Controller adapter as it really makes playing much more fun (from Amazon: Amazon.com ).
As for play, that's a whole 'nother writeup.

As ArcLight says, if you have an Xbox 360, invest the 80 MS points and visit online. I'm "brucoder" online and will be hitting things pretty heavy this weekend on both platforms.
I just ran into the lit wall panel bug last night (I've been playing the PC version for so long, I'd not updated the Xbox til then). It's happening on both the Xbox and the PC builds. Hoping that the fix is quick.
A bit more info. If you start the Alpha/Beta and select Fullscreen mode form the user options, you may run into a situation where the screen blanks for a few seconds while the startup music plays and the the screen clears and you're returned to the desktop with the Xenominer icon in the task bar.
I've been attacking the Fullscreen failure this past weekend. After working through multiple NVIDIA driver versions, the only thing that seems to make sense is that MS have updated something within the .NET infrastructure in that last update push that has affected fullscreen mode.
If you're running with fullscreen mode working, I recommend that you pass on any .NET updates that MS pushes until this is tracked further.
It will be one of the best and most addictive time sinks you've ever spent $10 on.
