Wurm Online

Game review

I've been playing Wurm for years, with a few breaks in between. The game is amazing!

Firstly there is terraforming. This is the feature that attracted me to the game back in 2009, and has never gotten boring.

The next one is a bit odd, but I like the fact that nature can reclaim abandoned settlements or ruins over time (months). Trees and grass regrow and spread. Buildings decay over time (if not maintained or deeded). This creates a system where it is impossible for a settlement to take up land indefinitely unless its inhabitants are actively playing.

The game does have a free-to-play + premium system. F2P skills are capped at 20. The maximum skill level is 100. There are A LOT of skills in this game. There are no character classes. You are what you want to be.

If you want to become a blacksmith or weaponsmith, then you have to train those skills by making the related items (tools/weapons/armor/etc).

But to make the above, you also need to train mining or woodcutting to be able to get higher quality resources.

To mention a few other features:
- House construction - you can pretty much make anything you want
- Awesome crafting system. Its really easy to use, especially after the UI update a few months ago. There are hundreds of things to make (possibly thousands). Everything has a quality level.
- Skills actually mean something. Higher skills let you make higher quality tools, resources and make it easier to create new items (sometimes faster too!)
- Hunting, fishing and foraging, cooking
- Carts, wagons and ships!
- Ridable animals - You can ride many animals (horses, bulls and bears to name a few)
- Religion (fictional ones), priests and magic
- PVP - A bit weak for an MMO, but not the worst out there
- Actual sailing between lands via ships - no teleporting!
- Everything is crafted by players (everything!)

I could go on and on here, but all I can really say at the end of it all is try it! You will not regret it. Even F2P has plenty to do. It is not time-limited. If you do premium then de-premium later in time, your skills are kept for when you premium again, but temporarily capped back to 20. Thought I'd mention this since it tends to confuse new players who are used to greedy MMOs. If you premium only once, your account will never, ever be deleted.
