hey hey! it's been a while :) starting to get more active on the DB again though! How about you?
Thank you to all who applied for the role of concept artist. We've had a massive reaction from the community and received far more applications than we had initially anticipated. It has taken us a bit of time to work through all of them, but in the end we did look at each individual applicant in detail.
Those of you who have been short-listed received an email with further instructions for the remaining application process. Unfortunately, not everyone could go through to the next stage and have had to turn a lot of you down. Its always difficult to tell someone they weren't successful, however these things need to be done.
We do, however, wish everyone who didn't make the cut all the best for their future modding and indie careers and hope that we will see them around the community.
Please note that we won't accept any further applications after this point. As soon as we have more vacancies, we will let you know!
Thanks to everyone again!

Hello Fellow Modders,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, if it isn't I do apologize! I have already posted this on the job ads as well, but I figured there is no harm in promoting the vacancy. Here it goes ;)

New job ad and news posted! Have a look :)
I think this is going to scare off a lot of the modding newcomers hehe. Looks bloody awesome though!
awesome work as always :) I love that dirty look of the bathroom section and the underpass is just neat - reminds me of nyc :)
(gotta post this in two bits)
I found that modding and being creative with your concepts, regardless of the engine you're using, always requires you to question your ideas. Is it feasible? Is it fun? Will it add to the environment, or will it annoy the players? Having ideas is great, turning those ideas into something playable is even better - but finding out that your great idea somewhat ruined the experience is a real motivation killer.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I think its brilliant that you're modding, and not just that, but that you're modding on gold source while most of today's developers would rather go for next-gen engines. I'd just hate to see so much enthusiasm, which you have already shown, go to waste because of simple mistakes. Keep up the work and good luck!
hey tnk, just thought I should give you some constructive criticism. First of all, its good to see so much enthusiasm from young Developers such as yourself. I've been involved in the modding scene since 1996 (the good old days hehe) and I have to say I am truly impressed with your drive. It's definitely refreshing!
However, I would really encourage you not to use imageshack as your media host for mod related eyecandy, apart from taking ages to load, it really isn't the most user friendly environment (ie. too much traffic and your work gets disabled). I can understand if you might not want to display your WIP screenshots on your mod profile's image bank, but at least upload them to your user profile and link them from there. It will run much smoother, not to mention cause less hassle.
I also noticed a few spelling mistakes on your work. This isn't really a big issue - especially since english isn't your first language (nor is it mine) - but it does question a developer's credibility.
Your character and feature ideas are definitely on the right track, however, with out wanting to come across like a hard ***, I have the impression you are trying too hard in some respects. For example, using manual over automatic gear changes when driving is great (and personally I think a lot more fun, having driven both), but is it something that would actually add to your mod's atmosphere? If you find that it most definitely will add to it, you should go for it - but then ask yourself if you can simplify it to a point where you have the functionality of manual driving without causing players to get stressed out.
ouch, yeah...I remember those problems. same thing happened to us way back when :(. If you need another playtester, give me a shout :)
that almost reminds me of apple's stand to the iphone4: "there's nothing wrong with the phone..everybody is just holding it wrong." xD
just finished the mod for the 10th time already and its still not getting old. Simply loving the gameplay and subtle humour of the mod. very well done!
awesome work :) i dread to think what kind of coding this required, but very very nice result indeed. Keep it up!
just watched your "random" video.. that nuke at the end.. bloody hell. awesome work on that. Love the effects, although the actual explosion could use a bit more work. Other than that.. keep it up!
hot damn.. thats all i can say really. can't wait to replay opposing force now :) might just kick up opfor vanilla again to kill some time until obm is released :P
this is shaping up very nicely! that video of the test track looks brilliant. some minor issues still, but other than that, its looking very hot indeed. Can't wait to play this baby :D
looking good. keep up the good work. when can we expect to see a vid of in-game footage? :)
I also don't think that they would force developers to charge for the custom content. After all, in their presentation on the new Battle.net they did say that although they make it possible to charge, they keep out of it and leave it up to the developers. I'd imagine Blizzard might take a share of the profits, as the custom content is developed with their tools and their engine, but I really don't think they'll force a charge.
And them stopping people from creating custom content is highly unlikely, so again..a fine (in my opinion) is out of the question :)
I think Craka has a point with the assumption that more people will own SC2 than WC3. Not only has it got a massive following from the Blizzard fan community, but generally will appeal to every gamer who enjoyed wc3 - so the potential will be far greater than sticking to wc3. And people who play RTS games, aren't going to buy WC3 over SC2 simply because the general demand goes towards the newer games due to better graphics, better gameplay, better support, better features, etc.
Granted, gamers whose computers won't/can't handle SC2 will inevitably be left behind, but that sadly is the nature of the gaming industry. Companies can only do so much optimising.
I've tested the SC2 beta on my 3 year old laptop and it still runs perfectly fine even on higher settings. I'm all for the move to SC2. Bring it on :)
"Blizzard Entertainment may force a price onto the project, requiring those who wish to play SC2:WoW to pay-to-play SC2:WoW first. It wouldn't be a monthly fee though - just a one-time fee."
That will not be the case, as you (as the author) have complete control over whether you wish to charge for the game or not. The only circumstance under which Blizzard would force a charge, would be if they didn't approve of the project and the charge would be in the form of a fine unless you stop development, but seeing as they are looking to promote their up-and-coming modding scene, that is very unlikely. So yeah, the final decision whether to charge for the mod will ultimately lie with you. :)
yeah I looked at network sync-able databanks and the aura system, but I wasn't sure if the info I got was reliable. Might write a follow up article, focusing on additional features not yet covered in this article, or not covered in detail :)
i think a sc1 classic and brood war remake on the sc2 platform will definitely see the light. And I think it will actually play better than the original - build queues for the win :D
haha loving the enthusiasm! Depending on how things unfold for us in the future, we'll definitely be looking at hosting SC2 mod projects with direct links to our rapidly growing community - and we'd of course make sure that any news you post will get extra coverage from us on other starcraft and modding websites.
And for all those people (there are a lot more than I had expected to be honest) who have decided they have to buy Starcraft 2 now, we have now set up our community shop on www.enterstarcraft.co.uk - if you do decide to buy the game, we'd really appreciate it, if you came through us, using the affiliate program, as that helps us keep the community running and hosting our own events, competitions and tournaments. And if not for the sake of supporting the enterstarcraft community, the offers actually are quite a bit cheaper than the retail stores (around here anyway) :)
