In my opinion, the game industry has evolved the habit of creating games that are much more demanding than a few years ago, relative to the technology in that day and age. Developers don't seem to care much about performance, the best example is "Assassin's Creed: Unity". The main focus nowadays seems to be marketing and advertisement, building up as much hype as possible. There is proof, however, that it doesn't have to be that way. Looking at games like "Warframe" can give hope to the modern gamer society. 200 FPS relative to ACUs 25. "Cities Skylines" constant 60 to "Offworld Trading Companies" 20.

What i want to say is: Optimization is an important (if often overlooked) trait of a game and, eventough it doesn't seem like it, there are still developers that consider it, like indie developers or non-commercially-oriented studios that work because of passion, rather than commercial reasons. On the other hand, of course, some games aren't finished or just weren't meant to be of high quality. "Offworld Trading Company" is still in early access and "Minecraft" wasn't anticipated to be as successful as it was.

Still. if there is a game that doesn't run well, don't blame it on your computer. It's as much of the developers fault as yours when a game doesn't run smooth - i am happy to see that people are starting to understand that now, as the reactions to "Assassin's Creed: Unity" confirm. As Immanuel Kant said: "Sapere Aude!"
