My favorite genres include 'in no particular order' RPG's, RTS, FPS, Shmups, Breakouts, Wacky & Psychedelic Indie games, Survival games, Simulation & Tower Defense games. TBH, I enjoy most genres apart from TM games, but what I play usually depends on my mood, whether a friend is available for coop gaming, or what I've just purchased. Some of my all time favorite games include Darklands, the Elder Scrolls franchise, Civilization, Baldurs Gate, Geometry Wars, Raptor, The Total War franchise, The Longest Journey, Under A Steel Sky, Aky's XP Breakout, Ricochet Infinity, Incrediball: The Seven Sapphires, Gish, Dune, Command & Conquer, BFVietnam, BF2, Conflict Vietnam, Vietcong, Men of Valor, Men of Honor: Pacific Assault, Far Cry 1 & 2,ArmA II & 3, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Conan Exiles. My go to game at the moment is my old favorite (and one of the best games ever released) Battlefield 2.

Looking forwards to this. It's fantastic that you modders are still working on these old games. Really appreciated. Love Vietcong and other Vietnam based games from the Naughties.

This is amazing.

Vietcong was one of my favourite shooters back in the noughties (together with Shellshock Nam, Line of Sight: Vietnam, Men of Valor, Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam, Battlefield Vietnam). It's also one of the first games I ever played online and made some friends in the process. I've been thinking of reinstalling the game after digging out my disks a few weeks ago.

It's modders like you that keep these old, but brilliant games alive. I'm also considering setting up a server so that I and my friends can play the game online. already done it for Battlefield Vietnam and Men of Valor.

The videos of your work look amazing. I'm really looking forwards to the beginning of March when you upload this. :)

I used to βeta test various Battlefield 2 mods such as the Mercs Mod by Hayabusa and the Commandos mod by MadOsga as well as several mappers for that game e.g.TheDark888. I've also βeta tested for several casual arcade developers such as 2DBoy (World of Goo), Dejobaan Games (AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity) and others.

I would love to βeta test the mod if you'd allow me. I would give you a decent report on any bugs and screen captures or video if it was warranted.

Did you remove all traces of the game from the registry? If you have certain entries within the registry hives, when you try to install the game, it will detect that you've previously installed it (even though you've deleted the game because there must be remnants of the games registry entries still within the registry); especially if you didn't use an uninstaller.

Open your registry and click on the Edit button along the top of the registry editor; from the drop down menu select Edit, (or press ctrl+F. This opens a small window called Find. Type in the name of the game, then press the button labelled Find Next. Any entries that correspond to the game delete from the left hand panel. I advise you make a back up of your registry first just in case you accidentally delete something that messes up windows. I've been doing this for 30 years and so far have never had any issues. If you're not sure about a particular entry, leave it. Once you've completed the deletions, try installing the game again.

I hope this helps.

Sounds like you are really busy. The only battlefield game I've still to buy is the latest one. I was going to purchase it in the summer sale back in early July, but there were a couple of other games I'd been lusting after. I'd read several reviews of the game, most of which were off-putting, so decided not to ge tit at the time. I still want to add it to my Battlefield collection, probably this coming Christmas.

I just wish EA games would do a remake of all the early customisable Battlefield games i.e. Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2, keeping the ability for modders to create new content and definitely revamping the commanders position with the the ability to direct your troops to where the action was, drop supplied and send a salvo of artillery where enemy strength was high.

You'd think the fact that all three games (more so Battlefield 2) are still modded regularly that they would realise that there is a large community wanting these old game reinvigorated.

Although there are custom made maps for the fourth in the series Battlefield 2142, because EA Games didn't release a single player editor, the maps used the original nav-meshes so custom maps were few and far between.

Stay safe; I'll get back to these comments once I've checked out your map.

Thanks my friend; I will check this out fairly soon. I'm pigging out on two hunting games at the moment (Call of the Wild and the newly released Way of the Hunter); I'm honing my sniper skills in readiness for your new upgraded map ;)

Not played BF2 or BFV for over a month now. I over did BFV playing it every day for months trying to sort out all the decent Coop maps as I'm intending to set up a server to play coop BFV maps with some friends. (I'm sending them hard copies of the game)

I love BF2, but my formative years were over the Vietnam war, so I have a love of all Vietnam based games.

Have you checked out the DLC S.O.G. Prairie Fire for ArmA 3? It's amazing, but too large to play cooperatively with friends (IMO).

Check out the following video:

It's over ayear old, so some of the negatives he mentions should have been address either via the workshop or via updates.

p.s. looking forwards to checking your map (and the previous one) soon
Once I've checked it out, I'll post some thoughts.

I've recently got back into Battlefield Vietnam. Having played the game on and off since it's original release. The Eve of Destruction mod was always my favorite mod for BF2, so I'm hoping to see your mod sometime in the not too distant future.

Regarding your comment about there not being many Battlefield Vietnam maps, apart from the original released maps of which there are 18 once patch v1,21 was released there are a further 442 conquest maps, of which 170 are also SP and 169 are coop. And that's not counting maps made for the many mods that are available for the game.

There may be more for the vanilla game as I've not finished checking my back ups (I kept backups of all the custom made maps created by the community); though I have spent a considerable amount of time searching all the host sites that still hold BFV maps, so there's probably not many more to be found.

I'm also considering creating some maps for the game sometime over the coming months, just as soon as I've checked out all of the coop maps (I'm intending setting up a weekend server for coop play with some friends).

I suspect there are going to be a lot more maps once I've checked out all of the mods I have backed up. None of which I've got around to installing yet.

Again, really looking forwards to seeing your mod released.

Please don't abandon it....... :)

No you're not dumb, Later versions of Direct X include the older versions, so you shouldn't need to install v8.1, which by todays standards is ancient. You should be able to skip the installation. Not installed this yet, so don't know exactly how, but usually you just press a continue button.

I remember this coming out. I was really into Line of Sight Vietnam at the time but Vietcong was on a different level, with lots of maps from the modding community and a great community. I also got into Battlefield Vietnam (BFV) and Men of Valor (MOV). Vietcong and BFV were the best for online play. I loved Men of Valor, but most of the servers were inhabited by spawn rape'ers, who would shoot you after the initial few seconds of cool down unless you could run for cover, which was rare. Also, if you were shot by someone, you could basically act as a spectator until you pressed your mouse button, which enabled you to watch where they were hiding. The sniper maps were particularly prone to this, but at the time MOV was the best of the bunch with respect to graphic and realism, but apart from the add on map pack the game wasn't moddable.

Thank you. Got to check this out once my mates have downloaded the version from MyAbandonware. The main game and Fist Alpha are now free to download. When you click on the download button it opens up several more download buttons for the various patches and NoCD patch.

It's well worth getting this game. Even though its now 19 years old it's still a fantastic game. Sadly they don't make them like this anymore. The emphasis seems to be on realism and multiplayer, where new maps are rolled out regularly and costing shed loads of money. Also, no modding support and only dedicated servers, so once the dev's decide to close them down, which they invariably will, the games are virtually unplayable, with just short single p0layer campaigns and no chance to play with your mates.

This is not the original Riverbend map. It has been edited by a different author to add some more river that cuts across the original; also, the original bend in the river is terminated. You can still see the route of the river where it should leave the map on the eastern side of the map. Also, the US FOB in the SW now only has a couple of Huey's spawning and a med/equipment crate at the site; whereas in the original we had a proper forward operating base with choppers, tanks, armoured carriers and artillery guns.

The original map was labelled Operation Riverbend.

It's still available to download from one of the other sites that hold Battlefield Vietnam maps. I'm in the process of uploading the original as Operation Riverbend on Filefront. Not sure if I'm able to here?

Hi, I'm really looking forwards to playing this mod. I've recently re installed game game after quite a long break. I'm working through the vanilla maps at the moment,; once completed I'll ten be adding various mods, of which this will be one. I'm intending to buy copies of the original; game (via eBay for some of my friends with who I play coop games every week. I'm hoping to run a server using an old second generation i7 so that we can play together without having to rent a server.

I'll read through all the text you've posted and haven't seen any mention of coop play. Will you be adding this to the mod sometime in the near future as I personally would love it if me and my friends could play together as a squad in this mod.

Hi Radzi, I hope you weren't put off by the negative comment posted last November.

I used to beta test for various modders. We were testing what I thought was the mappers best map so far (*continued in the next paragraph below) (Mappers name was The Dark88 who created such maps as Adh Oasis Revisited, Last Stand Assault and a sniper version, Back to the Suribachi, A Bad Surprise and Heaven and Hell Revisited (Originally called Heaven and Hell aka Cliff Attack 2). The last named map was a sequel to one of Hayabusa's maps called Cliff Attack and became the second in a planned series of eight maps (entitled Week of the Dragon (Day 0 to Day 7) - or something along those lines) that The Dark was going to created that were all connected. We were almost done testing his latest map when a new beta tester joined the team.

* All The Dark needed to do to complete the map was to sort out a small area of the map in a swamp, where the navmeshing had gone a little awry. This new tester posted a really negative comment about the map (which the rest of us were astounded by); Within a day The Dark had completely disappeared. His web site where we posted feedback had closed and his email, that was linked to the site also disappeared. I remember he was really stressed at the time because he had exam finals approaching) I've tried multiple times over the years to find the guy as his mapping skills were brilliant. I still have a copy of the map that was never released called Pushing Beyond which would have been the fourth in the Week of the Dragon saga.

I've meant to upload it for everyone to share; but was hoping to find the Dark first to ask permission as he never officially released the map. Maybe over a decade later it's time for me to accept that The Dark didn't want to be contacted by the BF2 community and just upload it; what do you think? It really is a superb map. Someone with navmeshing skills could easily fix the issue in the swamp area. All the problem is that the bots get confused at one pint and just wander around in circles; but it's not a map breaking issue.

The whole point of what I've said above was to give you some support and say ignore the negative comment. You've done something to be proud of most guys haven't the patience or the ability to do (including me)

W.R.

SlickWhiteRabbit - - 591 comments @ BFV Arsenal v0.50 - part 1 (core)

I've been playing BFV on and off since it's release. I had to buy a second copy after I wore my first copy out (and before I discovered NoCD patches). BFV is still an amazing game and one of my all time favourite Battlefield games together with BF1942 and BF2; I have all but the latest iteration of Battlefield i.e. BF2042 (which I will get eventually) and the first three outshine them in so many respects; the franchise IMO started to go downhill when BF2142 was released. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the games apart from maybe Hardline, it's just those first three are still amazing after all this time. Sadly BF3 onwards became more like a Call of Duty franchise.

Anyway, to the point, Oddly I've never used this mod until now and am very pleased with it. Pity it never got past v0.5. Would have liked to have seen it developed further.

Really pleased to see that there are still modders working on Battlfield Vietnam.
although I've loved Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2, BFV is still my favourite Battlefield game. I've been playing the game on and off since its release. Tending to play it every couple of years for a while, then moving back to the other battlefield games.

Thank you so much for creating this. I'm hoping to find more maps as well. I have quite a few, but my main backups for BFV were lost on a 2TB drive, after it was dropped and was no longer accessible. Some of the maps I had I've never been able to find since becasue many of the sites I originally downloaded them from way back in the mid noughties no longer exist.

I only have 36 maps in my BFV folder now, and that includes all the vanilla maps, so I've got many missing.

Still searching through DVD backups in the hope of finding more before I trawl the internet for more. My favorite custom made map is one created by skud0rz called River of Blood.
