Just found out about this page/game! Looks like a game I'd like to play, it reminds me of Captain Forever, and it also has some elements of a space game I've been wanting to make for years. I've added you to my 'watched games', so keep the updates coming!

Oh man, the Hydra was (at least to me) iconic for HL2 before release. I was disappointed it didn't make it into the release build, but after all this time I will be able to play against it anyway? That's awesome!

SIGILL - - 1,157 comments @ Total Conversions vs. Cosmetic Mods

I think there are still a surprising amount of total conversions being made nowadays, even though most of them seem to be for older games. I don't necessarily miss the 'old school' mods themselves, but the community around modding instead. It may be case of pink glasses, but it feels like 'back then' everyone was more willing to help, and more interested in the work of others. To me it feels that all is left is tons of people creating their own low-quality games on their own, instead of talented and motivated people teaming up and creating an awesome mod just because it's FUN (and perhaps to create cool content for a portfolio as well).

Hey, what's up? Are you still active in game/mod development and/or here on ModDB? I personally don't visit ModDB that often anymore, it feels like it has become more of a recruitment- and advertisement website than anything else :(

SIGILL - - 1,157 comments @ If you had to choose, which feature would you like implemented the most?

To be honest I doubt 'a new feature' is going to be worth implementing, regardless of which one it is. ModDB forums seem to have changed into advertisement/recruiting forums and a lot of mods that are worth checking out are also hosted on other, more modern and better supported websites.

Anyway, apparently I felt the need to indirectly express my sadness about what ModDB has become. If only it would be possible to implement a 'make it the way it was back in 2008' feature :)

The top of the page says this game is no longer in development, is that true? I thought 'cool, a new iQew project', it would be a shame if it's shelved already!

SIGILL - - 1,157 comments @ Ark: Survival Evolved Releases First Sponsored Mod

This is not true and exaggerated. If the modders think they are underpaid, they should not agree to sell their content, in the end it is their own choice to put a mod up for sale. And they have never stated they want to put a price on each and every mod.

I do share some of the annoyance towards Bethesda's attempts though, and I agree that Wildcard has a better way of doing this. The only question is how sustainable it is for the long term.

Nitpicking here, but if the terrain went from 20x20km (400km²) to 40x40 (1600km²) it isn't doubled, it quadrupled! o_0

SIGILL - - 1,157 comments @ AWKWARD TODD - DevLog #2: The Social Meter

I am not sure this game is actually going to be 'fun', for me at least. Don't get me wrong, the theme and idea are pretty cool and according to the first newspost this is about an issue you are dealing with yourself, so that earns you my respect, but I just don't see how this gameplay would convince me to keep playing and coming back to the game.
If the game is (partially) meant to give people some insight in living with a social anxiety disorder, then I guess it could achieve that goal though.

Still, I hope you can prove me wrong! And of course the most important thing is that you create something that YOU are comfortable with, not something that I am telling you to create (or not to create).

"Ultimately though, it's not about what ifs, but what was. We can run around claiming we were first, but no one will believe us, and if they did, it wouldn't mean anything. Sure, we'd get recognition for starting a game design fad, and that's it really."

Oh I know, and I was not completely, entirely serious when writing this blog entry. It's just that I wrote this program as a kind of parody, and now similar games apparently are popular. That surprised me quite a bit.

And yes, I get the idea :) That's why I mentioned the importance of timing/design/connections (I forgot marketing), because I know that big games with 'revolutionary' mechanics usually didn't actually invent those mechanics. They just have enough 'weight' to become well-known and popular, which causes most people to think those games were the first with those particular mechanics.

In the end it's the execution that matters most, not being the first one with an idea! Which is something that used to be said on the forums quite a lot of few years back I believe. In the case of my clicker game, the execution was done very poorly ;)

I always only checked the 'active topics', but I did so everyday. After the list got filled with such posts I stopped checking the forums, and as a side-effect I stopped visiting ModDB on a daily basis. So in my opinion, please disallow such posts.
On the other hand I do agree with feillyne... sigh :(
EDIT: Huh, now that I look through the active topics list again, those mobile game topics don't seem to be listed (anymore).. :/

Hm cool, I really had the idea that at least the window was displayed from a slightly different perspective! So either it's because the texture is a tiny bit horizontally stretched, or the zoom effect just fooled me :)
And thanks for the reply. You don't get notifications when you get a comment on an article?.. Because as you probably know a reply to a *comment* DOES generate a notification. Weird.
