I'm the Project Manager/Producer for flaming Brain Studios. An indie game studio myself and one of my friends opened over a year ago. I am a computer science major at Western Kentucky university. I am only 1.5 hour away from graduating but I will have to wait till next spring to finish because of some stuff. So, I'm in that weird capable but not qualified position. :( . I worked as a software engieer at a department of defense contractor for a while but I left due "Some stuff" I didn't like.

Can't Sleep

scubahunter Blog

So, I couldn't sleep tonight so I thought I'd blog a bit. I've been looking at all the great games here on ModDB. Its really great, and really depressing. I know we have assembled a Fantastic team that is still growing but when I look at these near complete games it makes me realize just how much work we have ahead of us. I know we will get it done, we have come to far to fail... It just seems that after all our hard work it's only the end of the first quarter of the game.... :( But I'm not discouraged, I know we will make something great that people will love to play AND have learned a lot along the way. My experiences at Flaming Brain have taught me so much already that I'm excited to see what the future will bring.

P.S. Interesting Podcasts are hard....

PodCast.Phail() = Success?

scubahunter Blog

Well, we tried our first podcast. Honestly I think it was a small disasster... but it did cause a jumpo in our hits... I'm not sure if that is good or not... well next time I think I'm gonna do a little more planning and add a little production value. maybe some theme music and such... oh yeah I said theme music. It might as well be entertaining as well as formal.

We did pick up a new level designer. Plugh. He seems really good. He has lots of experience with the Unreal system and seems very professional. I'm really glad to have another level designer. That is an area in which we were kinda hurting. Now lets just get about 50 more people on this project and we can get it done on time. :D

ModDB Slowing

scubahunter Blog

Hey, it's me again. I've been super busy with the game. Things are REALLY moving fast now, its hard to take time to blog. I have been aggressively browsing ModDB and have found many games I'd love to play, but the past couple of weeks the news feed has kinda slow.

Hopefully VERY soon we will be making a large Media release. We are planing on recording our very first podcast as well.

Yay!

New Flaming Brain Site

So I finally got around to making the Flaming Brain site somewhat useful. I'm really exited now. We also picked up a new animator who is really good. She is also hilarious, which I think will really help as the work is getting more and more intense. The few guys on the team here and I have decided to go to the triangle game conference. I'm really exited about this as I think it will be a great opportunity for us to interface with other professionals and industry people. We are going to guy some buisness cards and such... Who knows, maybe we'll find a sponsor!!!

Picking up the pace

scubahunter Blog

So, I've been trying to get Praetorian Defiance together for almost 2 years now. there have been some REALLY trying times. But now after all this time things have seemed to hit a warp drive. We finally have a large team (15+). We only have a few open positions. Not only are we filling out the team but the team we do have is amazing! I have stumbled upon some of the best artists, modelers and animators in the indie scene. Things are progressing so quickly it is getting hard for me to keep track of everything. Therefore we are implementing a trac system and svn again. We had tried this before but there were so few people using it it seemed pointless at the time. but now with so many people all working on different things it has been a bit of chaos to manage. this system will help to elevate that. SVN is a neccenity anyway for a online project I think. My only concern is being able to get everybody to use the system. That was a big issue last time. Hopefully I will manage it a bit better than it was managed before.

Regardless I think our exsistace on modDB has been great. We just hit 1000 views and I'm super excited to be here.

Intro

scubahunter Blog

So, I'm the project manager for Flaming Brain Studios. I thought I might start blogging on here so that aspiring game developers can hopefully learn from my experiences. I'm actually a programmer by heart. My degree is in Computer Science. Flaming Brain was started by myself and a Friend of mine. We thought we wanted to be in games but found the unavoidable catch 22 of the industry. You have you have a job to get experience and you have to have experience to get a job. So, we decided to make our own experience. After nearly 2 years of toil we finally have a great team and a great project. I'm learning that documentation is an Extremely necessary evil. Our team is international. We have recruited the best and brightest who are looking to go pro. I'm getting more and more excited for our project every day. Hopefully man more posts to come.
