Yes. The AI got some buffs recently.
Watched the stream. Love what I saw.
If you want another tester or someone to do some voice acting (British accent) I am more than willing to help.
When are you aiming for an open beta? Seems like it should be soon since the TA mod is nearly done.
Yes, ours was the Q.E.D of what happens when you try to bring your own creativity into Homeworld and get criticised for it. Normally I'm for breaking the mold but I think you're being a little arrogant about the kinetics. The best comparison we can do is between the battlecruisers, where the Vaygr had no kinetics whatsoever, whilst the Hiigarans had plenty. Kinetics in Vaygr ship design seems to be a last resort or specialist role, as is the case with the assault frigates and gun platforms.
I still think you use of kinetics on this is a break from pureblood Vaygr design. Again though I actually want the races to be more realistic in their use of weapon technologies. It only makes sense to arbitrarily restrict their use in a purely artistic way, not for the sake of gameplay or even "realism". This was what Homeworld 1 did so well in making both Kushan and Taiidan competitive without being total carbon copies in design or specialities.
But yeah the comments we received were very harsh, though the worst were not from you Pouk. I'm just saying don't be surprised if you end up getting the same treatment down the line. Nerds will be nerds.
I still think going with kinetics, especially on a "standard" cruiser for the Vaygr is a mistake. The destroyer is really an exception tot he rule in Vaygr ship design. With this you have two exceptions to that design and it starts to make the Vaygr bleed more into the Hiigarans.
We at Rebirth got a LOT of flak for our early Vaygr Battlecarrier design for this very reason. Most homeworlders seem to prefer their Vaygr missile heavy. The Battlecruiser itself does not have any turrets bar the basic point defence lasers as an example.
Personally I'd like more variety with the Vaygr but don't say I didn't warn you if people complain about this design "not fitting the Vaygr".
It's an evolution on the old Vortex design.
Personally I'd forgo the flechette kinetic cannons since those were primarily to give the Vaygr destroyer more anti-frigate direct fire and the Vaygr do not actually like dedicated gunships. A more Vaygr-y design might be to give the cruiser two independent fusion missile bays and limited point defence lasers making it more of a long range bombardment vessel that can flagship a destroyer group or provide additional firepower for a battlecruiser group.
The model itself looks nice though :)
We have a few modellers that overlap our departments, depends who you count. But they do try to stick to the concept initially. However there is iteration on both sides of the design process. Our flank cruiser for example is still being iterated upon.
All this is my way of saying that constructive criticism is always welcome and does make a difference. Though I am not promising we will agree, nor can we please, everyone :)
If you want to join and help us you can do :)
Thankfully the lore we are developing can account for a lot of... experimentation.
I used 1.6 and it was running fine. Won't know for certain until the THB release comes out though of course.
Looking forward to your first release :)
If you wish to join Homeworld Rebirth can you please message Naka or alternately go to our forums and introduce yourself first :)
Not sure what you're trying to say.
We'll definitely be trying to distinguish this from the Progenitor Dreadnought. Likely though we might go for a more reddish beam, to keep in line with the red laser corvettes and main gun of the Vaygr battlecruiser.
Having said that such a decision is not my department :).
But does it look cool? :D
Some of the members of our team are ex-Complex and Complex Enhanced devs. So yes, you will see some of our ships are evolutions of ships you will have already seen in a previous life in Complex and its spin-offs. However our artists and designers are re-imagining these ships that are carrying over. Giving them new models and refined roles.
In the above example, what you once knew as the 'Vortex' is now the 'Seraph' Flank Cruiser. A Hiigaran warship of Kiith Somtaaw design. In essence it is a highly specialised capital hunter=killer weapons platform.
The idea is this is an exceptionally fast cruiser that encircles an enemy capital, making it difficult for the enemy to return fire whilst the Seraph's heavy ions chew through its prey's ablative armour. Although how it will play in the final version of Rebirth will be up to both designers and play testers iterating it.
Hope that fills in some of the question marks :).
No pressure, right?
At least our artists are amazing :)
I've tried to do a completely clean installation with the First Decade Edition and community patch (rev 4). However the game fails to start from the launcher, even when run as administrator.
Eventually I disabled the SWR.net in the launcher that was trying to load and it starts just fine. I think I'll just use the normal VLANs like Hamatchi and Tunngle.
Looking forward to this.
That or he violated the temporal prime directive.
Still offering five strips of gold pressed latinum for a private copy :)
Rule of acquisition number 3: Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to.
I am willing to slip you five strips of gold pressed latinum if you email me the release candidate. I'll even help test it!
