If you paid for it when it first came out, it's a prime account. You can either install/update from the disc, or download from our website - your account will be prime regardless of which you use.

The most common cause for this is having an unsupported ATI card (anything earlier than a Radeon 9500). Other Directx8.1 and earlier cards will have similar problems. If you're not using an older video card, then you may need to update your video card drivers or Directx.
Regarding the combination of different genres - Savage 2 is a bit complex and it may be difficult to understand what's going on from time to time, but upon seeing how well the different elements mesh together, it's pretty clear that the combination is a groundbreaking and amazing achievement unlike any other game.
It is clear, however, that we need to provide more information to new and prospective new players to elaborate on the many aspects of Savage 2 - it's one of the projects I'm currently working on.
Mavis, can you tell us your Savage 2 player name? Maybe that will provide some insight on your Savage 2 experience that we can learn from (I can grab replays from the matches you were in and have a look at how things went).
To clarify, all player classes (Human, Beast, and Hellbourne) follow the same melee system. You might have encountered a player who was adept with it - they can sometimes seem invulnerable until you become comfortable with the system. Among other effects, successfully blocking an enemy player's attack increases the regeneration rate of your guard (block) meter, allowing you to block additional attacks. Of course, that guard meter regeneration only occurs when not attempting to block enemy attacks (forcing players to perform another action such as attacking or maneuvering). This is just one of the many elements of Savage 2's melee system that might seem daunting at first, but are extremely rewarding when successfully used against enemy players.
Purchasing a prime account (a permanent upgrade for $10) offers the following advantages: Access to the stats and achievements systems (track progress and reach milestones), access to the replays system (view replays of all matches played on official servers), the ability to create and manage clans, 2 extra inventory slots (6 instead of 4), and unlimited use of the hellbourne units (rather than just 1 preview use each). The prime account upgrade is optional, and there is by no means a barrage of prompts that impede gameplay (instead, there are notices alongside certain interface elements, but they do not prevent normal operation of the game nor are they pop-ups or nag screens). A prime account is NOT required to compete - instead it's a nice perk and helps us continue to support Savage 2.
It's something that's being worked on - check the general discussion forums at the Savage 2 forums for info.
Nice to see the mod up! Hopefully this paves the way for more!
Should be gun_sniperbow. If you extract the game_settings.cfg from resources0.s2z, you can find a huge list of different values you can change.
What nvidia driver issue are you referring to?
Haven't played Savage 2 yet? Sounds like now's the perfect time to hop in - it's free to play!
Whoah, SIX months ago? Savage 2 has come a LONG way since then. You should really come back for another look.
I had recorded it without the burning sky so players can get a better view of the it.
The game had a very, very rough launch - both game issues (which have long since been resolved) and ineffective marketing kept this away from the eyes of a lot of would-be players.
Anyways, we're coming back - it'll take a while, but eventually we'll get the kind of exposure that Savage 2 deserves.
(edit) Odd, I keep trying to post this comment in the right place and it ends up over here. Oh well.
No idea - it's up to the HoN staff.
Probably not until the next round of keys goes out on the Facebook page - OR ask some of the existing beta players - I'm sure there's till tons of invites that haven't yet gone out.
Nope. The new title is Heroes of Newerth. You can find more info on that here:
Yup, no purchase required, ever. However, if you really enjoy Savage 2, I'd recommend upgrading to a Prime account - it helps us support the game and paves the way for making a third Savage game possible.
The combat has a pretty nice mesh of techniques and abilities that make 1v1 and 1vMany combat pretty interesting. Also, there's generally always someone who'll be willing to take the commander spot, so if you're not too keen on that, no worries.
What you've described is in large part the growing pains of having a smaller community, and that sort of thing is much more rare now than it was at the release. I've been working on plans to improve how teams are balanced, but I haven't yet had the time to implement them.
We'll be seeing a similar one for beasts in a bit - and more stuff after that.
So the only thing that you changed was the aspect ratio setting?
Yea, we've put together something really incredible. If we can get enough attention to the game to where we can get Savage 2 moving again, Savage 3 might very well become possible somewhere down the road.
Let 'em come! By the time hackers have arrived in any worrying amount we'd have enough new players coming in to add additional support for the game - both to stamp out the hackers AND add more content.
There's a memory issue that we'll likely be able to clean up in the next patch - it occurs on systems with a lot of ram who run Savage 2 with the graphics settings turned up (particularly high texture detail), usually every so many map loads.
I'm not sure I'm following you. Did you mean new video? There should be at least a couple of new ones before the event ends.
Glad you like what you see! Hop in and check it out. If you really enjoy it, go Prime!
Upgrading to a Prime account (a $10 one-time fee for a permanent upgrade) is not required to play, but gives access to the stats and achievements systems, replays system, unlimited use of hellbourne units (rather than one preview usage each), the ability to create and manage clans (rather than just join them) and 2 extra inventory slots (6 instead of 4).
You may be running out of ram if you have the texture detail cranked up (ESPECIALLY if you're using Vista, which generally needs another 256-512mb more ram than XP). The tutorial map uses a good bit fewer resources than normal play.
It's possible that you may not meet the minimum requirements to play Savage 2. What are your system specs?
@archkyrie: These be humans under your command! Regardless of whether they're playing Humans or Beasts! Rawr!
Generally your team will want you to stay in the commander chair, but someone will generally take over if you decide to resign.
@NullSoldier: I'm glad you like it! We worked really hard to get the game where it is now.
I've posted a little tidbit for now. More will be coming later on.

I'm the current project lead for Savage 2: A Tortured Soul. I have a background in web development, game modding, server management, technical support, network administration, database management, etc. - mostly IT work. Been playing and tinkering with games since before I can remember. Getting into game development was pretty natural. I was in and working before it hit me that I actually managed to get my dream job.
