It's a fair question, and I realise you've read it now, but it basically comes down to the work needed to have 1 extra Z level is about the same as any number when you really get into it!

Much more like Rimworld, probably with some extra layers in the style of Prison Architect, explained why at Kickstarter.com and Kickstarter.com

Actually every platform only comes with a 64-bit launcher, mostly due to this memory constraint.

It is a good question. Firstly it's on a much bigger scale, rather than the few survivors of a Rimworld colony, you're managing a functioning economy and settlement of up to a few hundred settlers, ensuring supply chains work (think of The Settlers but if the settlers had their own personalities and lives). It loses some of the intimacy Rimworld but hopefully makes up for it with an interesting simulation.

The biggest feature is that you'll be able to go off-map with a group of adventurers on a randomly generated dungeon crawl, or explore/fight through a copy of another player's settlement. I guess Rimworld does now let you explore more of the world but this is going to be a big focus. You'll hunt giant monsters for special crafting materials. You can attack your neighbours before they raid you to make sure that doesn't happen. That kind of thing :)

Then there's all the small touches, which admittedly aren't much different to Rimworld right now, but as the game is developed I'm sure you'll see more and more to differentiate it.

Ah but the beer is coming, with a very detailed production chain and a major part of the economy! :) Just not in this version sadly, but the next major one I'm sure it will be.

Cooking and brewing are the next major features to come along, with farming mushrooms not far behind that, so you can be sure there'll be something along those lines :)

Here's a quick look at memory management under the hood - it's very spikey due to the Java garbage collector but over time seems to use the same amount of memory for the duration, dropping down to about 250MB on average. How much memory do you have on your machine? Any info helps!

Thanks a lot for bringing that to our attention! Looking into it now! The game does seem to hover around 2.8GB of memory usage normally (not been at all conservative with memory usage at this stage) which is a lot but shouldn't be a problem for modern desktops/laptops. Will do some debugging now to see if I can find a memory leak.

Fantastic, thanks for your interest! I'm confident the next update will have more in-game art to show off in terms of translating the concepts into how they'll look in game, so stay tuned :)

Not yet, probably not for a long time until much closer to release when I'll know what text needs translating, but it'll definitely need a Spanish translation eventually :)

It's the biggest inspiration to be sure, along with (deep breath) The Settlers, Prison Architect, Rimworld, Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, Ultima Online, X-COM and Blood Bowl!

Thanks! :) Just hoping it'll be appreciated when it's big enough for people to want to write mods!

Thanks for the questions!

1. Yes there's different factions and they'd all be available from the start of the game! Currently planned are Dwarves, who work as a kind of communal clan "for the greater good", humans who will be a bit trickier to play as each settler works for money, so the player will have to set taxes and wages and maintain a functioning currency. Also orcs, who rely more on raiding other settlements for food and resources, and have to be kept happy by being part of enough fights or else they'll turn on each other :) If/when I can launch this on Kickstarter or other crowdfunding platforms, I'd like to include more weird and wonderful factions as a stretch goal, such as playing as a necromancer raising hordes of undead servants to do your bidding, and other more "evil" factions inspired somewhat by Dungeon Keeper.

2. The grand plan is you'll be able to visit and attack other player's settlements - actually a copy of their settlement uploaded to the central server - with a party of adventurers who have grown out of your town guard / barracks. Combat is planned to be turn-based on a grid, somewhere between XCOM and pan and paper RPGs. Both players may gain rewards for playing in this way - the settlement under attack wouldn't actually lose anything - it's not going to directly affect the player's settlement as in something like Clash of Clans.
