Speed Dreams

Game review

This game is still pretty basic compared to other racing games, but it's come a long way since it was first forked from TORC. Definitely one to watch!

Neverputt

Game review

Its very simplistic, but that's it's charm. If you like mini-golf, I think neverputt does a great job of capturing that same feeling. It's relaxing to play with an analog joystick, but it does get pretty challenging at some points.

Neverball

Game review

This is a great balance game. The controls are simplistic, but it's really polished and a lot of fun. I recommend trying it with a joystick if it's too hard with a mouse.

To the Moon

Game review

This was an awesome experience, beginning to end. I really enjoyed the storytelling and graphics. The controls are a little flake, but effective. Overall I highly recommend this one to anyone looking for an engrossing story.

Project Black Sun

Game review

I waited until I sunk a lot of hours into this before giving it a proper review, and I have to say that this game is awesome. It feels like it gets it's inspiration from classics like Castlevania, Metroid, or the Megaman X series, and that's a great thing. Just like those classic series though, it is hard. It's not impossible, however, but kids who are used to easy current generation games will probably be frustrated. Those who grew up during the 8 and 16-bit eras will feel right at home. If you take your time and explore, find a few powerups, you'll start having a blast.

Things I like:
-It works on Linux! Thank you Starflower Games!!
-The controls are extremely tight. The only way to play this is with a gamepad. I use an xbox 360 controller, with xboxdrv.
-The hit detection is excellent. Along with the controls, this is important on this kind of game.
-The music. This game has phenominal music. I love the "Secret Garden" track. Even if it's not to your taste, you have to admit that the composition is well done.
-The speed of the game. This is something some people complain about, but I think it gives the game an original feel. I think the gun re-loading adds a nice challenge.

Things that could be better:
-Customization of controls. This is a non-issue if you use a gamepad (which you should), but I can understand how keyboard users must be frustrated.
-There are a few bugs, such as the game closing when changing screen resolution in the options.

I hope the developers will adress the issues that some people have with it, and I hope that everyone else will give it a try. It's definitely one of my favorite games this year.

Cave Story+

Game review

This is one of my favorite games. There is an amazing variety of enemies and weapons, and it's just plain fun to play. The control takes a little getting used to at first (it's a bit floaty), but you'll get used it it quickly. I recommend everyone giving this a shot. Make sure you play it for at least 20 minutes, at you'll be hooked.

Scoregasm

Game review

I'm playing this under Linux, and loving it. If you like shoot-em-ups, or just fast paced arcadey games, you have got to get this. It has a really nice difficulty curve, and put a smile on my face 10 minutes into it. Some things I like about it:

It has really nice joystick configuration options. I'm using a Dualshock3 (qtsixa) under Ubuntu, and Scoregasm let me configure it perfectly. A lot of joysticks have strange axis, especially dual stick ones, so it's nice to have the detailed configuration options.

It's a dual stick shooter! I LOVE traditional 2D vertical and horizontal shmups, but it's nice to play one of these sometimes.

Really nice variety of enemies, with their own unique movements. It's great fun each time you see a new type.
