The Vikings too had "colonies" in Newfoundland right ? I read this somewhere on the net so it might be wrong.

yes but the point here is that Andalusian and Malian Muslims went to Americas before Columbus.

Wait what? Why didn't I know about this? Also if the Muslims got there first why did it take Europeans to colonize the place and bring the knowledge of this "new continent" back to their nations?

The part of history played by Muslims is usually ignored in western history education.

As of the second question:
1. Muslims weren't interested in colonising and taking land unjustly from natives
2. Andalusia and Mali both declined a century after these voyages.

Yeah, my Greek ancestors who responsible for some of the biggest developments in mathematics and science (I'm half Greek-Cypriot). However, no one "created" these things. Humans were performing maths since they developed the mental capacity to do so. Even some animals can perform simple mathematical calculations (i.e monkeys and dolphins).

Astrology is superstition though (unless you're referring to astronomy which is scientific) and alchemy didn't work, although it gave way to chemistry.

But yes, The Islamic Golden Age even resulted in Muslim scholars proposing an early theory of evolution centuries before Darwin. Al-Jahiz and Ibn Khaldun both proposed natural selection before Darwin.
