It was around 7th grade when I started getting ideas for making games. The first was “Javalops.”

I wrote: "Javalops is about 3 races at war with each other. 3 misfits, each of a different race, team up to stop the war and pacify the world.

The planned games to be released are:

  • Javalops Blue, Red, and Black

  • Javalops 2
  • Javalops Aqua, Magma, Cosmos
  • Javalops 4: Dark Forces

I’m looking forward to finally releasing Javalops in 2012. I think it’ll be great."

Javalops was conceived as an RPG made in Java, just like Runescape. I didn’t know Java back then, so I just made it in Scratch. I don’t really remember much of it after that; I deleted all the original files long ago. I kinda stopped working on it. It was February 1st, 2011 when I made the thing that quote came from. Then, on October 28th of that same year, I released “Dot Chase Expansion,” which was an utterly laughable game, for $0.50 at launch! Fifty cents! I was so damn eager to get a game out back then… I didn’t even know how to properly compile Scratch projects into .exe files.

Then there was “Hearts.” I wanted it to be a Zelda-esque game with puzzles and stuff, then while 95% through planning the first one, I wanted the series, YES “series”, to be a beat-‘em-up just like Castle Crashers. So I made the final level a beat-‘em-up and my excuse for this was that some reckoning was about to happen in that universe and it happened just as the player got to the final level. And then Hearts 2, Zero, and 3 were going to be beat-‘em-ups too. What a train wreck that was going to be. While designing the first game, I was so excited for the sequel that I couldn’t focus and eventually stopped making it entirely.

AND, there was also a game called “Codename: Raven”, because I couldn’t think of a name. It was going to be a horror game just like Condemned, because at the time I enjoyed watching Simon and Hannah play it. I never really did anything with the idea though.

Okay now we’re almost caught up. Project Dual-Pistol. Just like Project Zomboid. Except not really. Project Zomboid was about surviving for as long as you can in a zombie apocalypse; Dual Pistol was about building a radio to escape a zombie-infested island. I designed the original game world too big and was too lazy to scale back so I stopped. Plus Phlobb’s Adventure 1 was on my mind.

Phlobb’s Adventure 1… I drew up some levels on some graph paper in 2011 and never touched it again until the summer of 2013. Around this time I was also thinking about a sequel, and I would start working on said sequel at the start of 2014, with a release date aimed at 2016. I thought I could finish Phlobb’s Adventure 1 in one summer. Nope. The farthest I got was about 80% of the first level. I told myself I would have to stop PA1 and move on to PA2 because I wanted to have a game I could sell out by the time I graduate high school.

So there you have it. Impatient me and the cancellation of many ideas. I may be working on Phlobb’s Adventure 2 now, but I’m not looking forward to anything after it. Not right now, anyway. I’ve really been able to focus on what I’m doing, and lately, I’ve been doing things for my game for most of the day without having to set an alarm at 12 PM to tell me to get to work. I enjoy it :)
