Yeah you should just be proud of the work you have done to get this far. Like you say ideas are not unique, and it seems to me one of the fallacies of the human experience to presume that he who "thought" of the idea "owns" it anyway. Did Darwin "invent" evolution? No, it was always there and in fact was discovered by Alfred Russel Wallace at the same time or before (he just lost out on the fame). Like you say this has happened countless times in history. Likewise did Hello games "invent" the idea of game wher eyou fly about space and land on planets with an inventory. No - the idea was always apossibilty, and as you say several people have acted on it. Personally I would say Elite got there before in 1984 (although the tech meant landing on planets was not possible). You can also add yourself to the list!

Thing is, anyone can "have an amazing idea" about a game, and it could turn out to be great or it could be terrible, but it wholly depends on how well the idea itself is implemented. Me, I often worry another dev will make a game along the same lines as mine but release it before me too, but at the end of the day, I guess as you say you need to remember that is not the important thing. The important thing is that you did it, and you did it as best you could - which is a lot more than many can say. So good luck there!

Hiya. Thanks for checking out the game. Yes Overcrowd has actually changed a large amount since then! Initially it was much smaller in scope, focused just on controlling units around premade stations. Since then it has probably been 80% rewritten, allowing the whole building of stations, shops and different staff mechanics, but the core actions of ushering commuters and managing litter, the commuter fighting and vomiting behaviours have remained, as has the theme and (generally) the art style/humour. You can see how the 2013 prototype looks in the (old) trailer on youtube, which has the old GUI present. So yeah it has drastically changed. This was because I realised I wanted to devote more time to it and make it a much bigger/deeper experience. During that time I also learnt essentially to code (beyond mere basics!), which meant I could make the game match my goals more easily. Hope you continue to watach for further updates in the future.

Hiya Lucas

Thanks for your comment, it's interesting to read. Yeah making this game seems like in some areas it's a going to be a balancing act between the degrees of direct control given to the player vs staff/facility autonomony (leaving aside the building aspects).

It's quite encouraging to hear your point of view - I expect others might prefer a more hands off approach as seen in the traditional management game model. I guess its a question of where the players attention lies. Hopefully it will end up a reasonable mix of them both, and I'll be refining through beta/early access anyway.

On the RTS difficulty side, you can pause/unpause any time with space bar, so although it can be hectic, you can take time to think - I'm sort of aiming for an FTL vibe there dare I say. That carries through with staff (currently) learning what jobs they do so you can specialise them.

I figure there are plenty of amazing management/tycoon games out there, I suppose I would rather attempt something marginally different and see how it works out. Like I said, certain approaches are still quite fluid, so we'll see how it all pans out! Thanks again for your thoughts - hopefully I can bring you more updates and play through vids in the coming months!

I'm not a regular use, but maybe I'll look into it when I hit steam early access.
