Since people are fussing about cigs restoring stamina, I'd like to suggest a following solution:

Cigs increase stamina regen - this is psychological effect, but nevertheless it makes you feel focused and rejuvenated.
Chain-smoking should have adverse effects.
Cigs should damage the player while smoking, just a tiny amount, but not be able to kill the player, similar to how they are in MGS1

Stripper clips work a bit differently if you think about it:
Unlike a magazine, after loading a weapon an empty stripper clip should be returned to player inv, because it does not stay attached to a weapon.
This would require a completely different logic. it's not impossible but that's a whole mod rewrite for just 2 weapons

We're working on option where mags are 100% when trading, this allows selling them while preserving original functionality

Looks right, but it's impossible to be 100% sure from code in comment.

If you could post what exactly was wrong with the mentioned line that would help a lot (for ex. expecting sting got nil)

This feature already has been merged with Cheap Magazines Rebrand Moddb.com

If you don't feel up to task you can try using that instead adding it yourself (just make a backup of the mod and savegame before doing anything)

You need a compatibility patch for those two to work together
looks like you haven't applied it, because there is is one already included

It re-adds compatible ammo highlighting when hovering over a magazine and compatible magazine highlighting when hovering over weapon.

Goes inside on_item_focus, replacing commented out code for weapon highlighting
it's not perfect (could be more optimized) but works for what it is

replace corresponding lines in your script
timer inside mag_to_inv check is unloading time
timer inside ammo_to_mag check is loading time
you can change the individual values to your linking

Well, the last beta version (which is now open BTW) did not support hl2 maps, but that was only a thing in beta.

You'll will be able to play through hl2 in this mod

I've been helping with revival of Half-Life 2 :Substance Moddb.com + I'm currently working on updating SMOD Standalone.
All that stuff caused a "slight" delay. but this mod is not abandoned.

Bow is going to be a stealth-centered weapon:

It has slow firerate, ammo is rare(very) but it DOES NOT DECLOAK player while shooting, plus it has enough power to nail combine to a wall
(only in difficulties normal and below, on hard and ultimate player needs to be in Max Strength mode to one-shot an enemy)
