I don't have much Linux experience, but I was able to get the game running by grabbing the source and building my own binaries:

I will be honest, the AI is pretty bad... the online multiplayer is where the fun is at!!
@Desura users, I uploaded the newest version. I do not know why Desura was not updated to the most recent SG1.1. The version that was on Desura was actually 1.1RC1 (a beta version). The final 1.1 release has been on Moddb for over a year.
Fair warning, the friendly "red X" does not appear in this map. I think this is due to the fog that is throughout the map. I hope this is resolved soon.
Head over to our forums. You will receive a more technical answer there: Smokin-guns.org
Website is moved: www.smokin-guns.org
Forums and tutorials are still there.
Unfortunately, the dev team is really suffering right now. We have no Mac devs and it looks like the last time we included Mac files there were errors. Some people have built their own, they might share.
Give this thread a try: Forum.smokin-guns.org
It sounds like you have a bad pk3 file. The rectangles you get are the games way of displaying textures/shaders that are not found. How did you install the game? You might want to start from a fresh install.
1) Remove/delete your old Smokin' Guns install. If you want to save you config file thats fine.
2) Download the OS Independent package: Indiedb.com
3) If the executable does not work, the source code can be found on SourceForge : Sourceforge.net . Build a new executable and see if that works.
Just to be clear, the old "ManWithNoName" head model is on the right, and the new one is on the left?
Looks great doomdragon, wish you could to the rest of the model :D
This is EasyGen. I've imported a basic building structure from Radiant, then mold the shape of the ground around the building. Stared this in ComancheCanyon, used it in Lago and DeathValleyMine. Red, does it the other way: make the ground first, then make the building.
I might need some coding support on my new project BTW. ;)
If you like the video, head over to Evil Futsin's youtube channel. He doesn't do much with SG anymore, but he still makes great stuff:

For Linux, you can use XQF: Linuxgames.com
I added some styling to the game description. Let me know what you think.
Do you know how to change the background image of the body? e.g. Indiedb.com
Ok, I finally got around to uploading the intro video from the game. Agreed, it looks much much better.
Guess this should have been uploaded sooner. Futs, if you have a better version, please feel free to upload it!
Smokin' Guns is the only game we make as a group. Some of the members have been on other mods and projects. If you are curious, you might find more information on our individual pages:
Moddb.com
Try using MonsterBrowser. The in game browser doesn't always work. MonsterBrowser is developed by torhu, one of the Smokin' Guns developers.

Great! If you have any questions or feedback, head over to the SG main page:
Smokin-guns.org
Could you post a link to the mirror you used? Some other players are having the same problem :(
Hope the main mirror come available soon. Glad you were able to get it from another mirror.
Sorry it took so long to release. I have not had a chance to work on it at all. The compiled files are almost a year old.... /shame
Enjoy
ITs not the preview video, its just the last video that was uploaded.
You should be contacting Moddb. Make sure your not blocking the pop-up. Also, you will need to use the free users download, not the premium user.
Thanks Joe for taking the reins and getting 1.1b5 out there.
SG is currently experiencing some technicial difficulty.
The ID master server is down which makes the in-game and MB server browsers useless. There are some still listed on our Xfire page: Xfire.com
Also, you may have noticed that the main website is down. We are working on a solution and will have a main page back up soon.
Grats on the release! I will try to give it a try this weekend.
Again, its easy enough to build new binaries from the source on sourceforge: Sourceforge.net
You can use Desura to download the content, or just grab it form the Moddb download page. I hope we can get better Linux support on Desure when we release SG1.1
Oh ok. I will talk to the rest of the team to see what we can do about getting Linux support up on Desura. That's for the feedback.

Smokin' Guns player, enthusiast, and beta tester. I downloaded WesternQuake3 for the first time in Novemeber2005. I did as much as I could for the mod including making my own map, running tournaments, and other odds and ends. Recently, I have been promoted to "Smokin' Guns dev member" which roughly translates to "I love this game."
