I think that piracy is a result of companies fear of adapting to a new sales environment and also the deterioration in business-consumer relations.

The truth is that most marketers are not pioneering geniuses and often will adopt current popular marketing concepts and will continue to use them even when everything is falling apart around them. The current landscape of faceless shareholders and wealth creation destroys any taste for taking risks and adapt to consumer demands.

This has led to unsatisfactory services and has led a large amount of consumers to feel uncared for and so a breakdown in relations.

The relationship between consumer and seller has fallen off a cliff. If a seller sees me as anything less then a human being and treats me like a wallet I then have no concern for the success of that seller. These large faceless corporation will never appreciate my help in creating them. They think they are clever for tricking me out of my money and don't realize that it leaves a bad taste in a consumers mouth when they're used.

This is why indie is taking off and corps are being pirated and losing sales. Compassion and respect for the buyer.

You're doing some great work.

My recommendation would be to remove the blue buy icons under the game covers on the selling page. I've seen that design before and it looks a bit old to me. I think it would be better if the price would fade in whenever you hover over a cover. You could provide a price search filter for those who want to find those that are cheaper.

Secondly, I think showing activity levels of multiplayer mods is a great idea. What if you expanded this concept to activity of every user and provide a meter to show how many users are loading the game up. You could call it the rage meter and alert users when a mod reaches high levels so that we all get an opportunity to get in on the action when its most popular.

Of course due to the scattered nature of moddb international userbase its kind of difficult to be relevant to American users if somethin is popular in Europe. I'm in Asia at the mo so all multiplayer mods are irrelevant to me.

OisinFX - - 7 comments @ Desura is launching!

Desura needs a better system for leafing through the available games and mods. If you plan on offering new content everyday its gonna get very crowded and the goods on offer will look they're offered at a carboot sale instead of presented as important goods. I understand why ModDB is a bit crowded looking because of all the WIP mods and games but if you're offering finished products on Desura they should be presented better. Using flash, bigger splash screens and avoiding too many clicks will help.
