Thanks for the compliment!

Yeah, I'm not happy with the keyboard controls right now either. They're more of a means to an end right now so I can test the game when I don't have a gamepad available. In the future, I plan to add input configuration and a better default input scheme.

I've just uploaded a new build that MIGHT address your problem. (I fixed the knock-back problem I mentioned, but I'm not sure if that's the source of your trouble or not.)

Anyway, if you're interested, the build should be available at the following link once the mods approve it:

Thanks for the heads-up.

Do you have any more details on when and how often the bug occurs? For example, does it happen when you're knocked to the edge of the screen by the demon's attack?

Also, how is the game's performance on your computer? I've noticed that my knock-back logic is highly framerate-dependent (which is a bug), so that might be related to seeing odd behavior.

I've tried reproducing the bug in my local environment, but no luck so far I'm afraid.

If you're playing as P1, you should be to control the Knight using W,A,S,D from the 2nd round on.

This varies by manufacturer, but most keyboards have limits on which keys can be recognized when pressed simultaneously. (See: Blogs.msdn.com). For example, the 'D' key might not be recognized when both 'V' and 'C' are pressed, stuff like that. Even then, if the Knight doesn't move even when you press 'D' or 'A' by themselves, then I'm not sure what could be the problem.

I don't have input configuration implemented yet, so you're kind of stuck regarding reconfiguring keys for now. The only other workaround I have at the moment is using a gamepad...

Sorry for the trouble.

Hmm, I'm not sure what might cause that.

Are you using keyboard or gamepad controls? If you're using a gamepad, what kind are you using?

Hi iraniel,

I recently uploaded a version of the game that fixes a crash going into the game. You can download it from this link once the mods approve the download: Indiedb.com

Well, I'm afraid I don't have a solution for you yet, but I'm literally working on fixing that crash right now.

I've found that (on my main computer)that the bug only seems to occur when I have two controllers plugged in. If I unplug one it works. I don't think the bug is tied to input handling per se, but I think it has to due with some subtle processing timing that (in my case) is changed by the number of controllers I have plugged in.

You might try plugging/unplugging different devices or, if you're using a laptop, unplug the laptop (since many laptops lower their CPU speed when not plugged in.)

I know it's not a great solution, but rest assured that I'm working on fixing the crash. Sorry for the trouble.

Hey man, thanks for the coverage.

I especially liked your commentary for the Archdemon while you were playing. Maybe I should give it a "Talk Smack" action. ;)

Again, thanks for the coverage and stay tuned for future updates.

Yeah, I'm afraid the game is currently limited to either a gamepad + keyboard or a 2 gamepad configuration. I'm not sure when it'll be done, but rest assured that input configuration is on my TODO list.

Thanks for the ideas.

When I first started thinking about this game, I thought in terms of adding bosses and heroes on a 1:1 basis. As I've been working on it, I get the sense that it makes sense to have more boss variety than hero variety since it's the boss that sets the rhythm of the battle.

The player-sized boss could be interesting. One of the interesting things about this game is that the hero doesn't need to be tightly balanced against a boss since all players will have a turn as a boss. So, it might be possible to have a player-sized boss (or maybe a doppelganger) as an option.

Also, getting on Steam Greenlight is a great idea. I'm thinking of trying that once I have more of the game put together.

The current version is 2 players only, but I plan to add support for more players as well as computer-controlled AI.

The keyboard controls are:

Hero
WASD - Move
I - Slash
K - Jump
O - Dash

Demon
WASD - Move
I - Horizontal Stomp
K - Vertical Stomp
O - Fireball (near)
L - Fireball (far)

For gamepad, the controls are:
Hero
Left Thumbstick - Move
X - Slash
A - Jump
Y - Dash

Demon
Left Thumbstick - Move
X - Horizontal Stomp
A - Vertical Stomp
Y - Fireball (near)
B - Fireball (far)

Interesting. I'll look into the compatibility mode and see if there are ways I can change the app so you don't have to do that.

Thanks for your patience and the bug report.

Hi Kevvie,

Are you running version 0.0.3 (the latest download, uploaded Sep 7, 2013)? The crash you're describing sounds like a crash bug that I fixed in 0.0.3.

Thanks!

I definitely plan to add more heroes and bosses into the mix. My hope most of the combatants, especially the bosses, is for most of them to have distinct play-styles and lots of unique attacks.

If you have ideas for creatures you'd like to see in this game, please feel free to let me know!
