Hmm yes, I might do that at some point. Until then, you can drool over already implemented changes here: Rogue.epixx.org

The reason why it works like that is that the player can't go up a level and heal to full, go down, snipe an enemy, go back up and heal to full etc. (it's easier to fix that problem by making it impossible to run back up than making the creatures follow and or heal up while player heals up).

If you have the Silent Move talent you can try to skip past the enemies (or kill them off one by one with the use of cover). Just use the talent to move on the stairs and descend to a new level and you will be hidden.

Other thing that you can do is to learn which creatures are friends with each other and which are enemies. That way you can handle most situations simply by running away from the enemies and let them kill each other (use ranged attacks to weaken the most likely survivors before finishing them off).

Use "cooldowns" such as wands, scrolls, potions etc. to quickly take out the worst threat and then work out the rest.

And finally, run back up before making a move and either push a boulder on the stairs or pay 50g to reset the dungeon.

1.06 is being worked on and it will be the largest update so far. Timewise maybe 10 to 12 weeks if all goes smooth.

1.05 is "out" but the version that Desura app launches is porked. Please use the standalone version until it is fixed.

There's no wiki but if you can ask a specific question on the forum, there might eventually be an answer.

Unfortunately there is no automated way of doing it.

The difference is that the level cap is 20 instead of 10, you can learn 6 talents instead of 3 and the game becomes harder at around level 12 when the enemies learn new talents (demo is kind of an easy mode). In addition, some challenges are either almost impossible or impossible to complete in the demo.

As for the Steam part, the progress there seems so slow that the Sun will probably go nova before the green monster standing on the way is defeated. Having said that, I suppose I could make a promise that "if" it gets there and "if" Steam still allows handing over keys at that time, I can throw them to whomever has bought the game here.

There's now a forum available (see above). Feel free to start new topics and suggest new boards and I'll see if I can make them happen. I also started a "New Player Tips" thread that lists all default keys and mouse buttons to help you get started. I plan to update that thread with other tips as soon as I can figure out which issues are the most common.

Version 1.04 should be available now. I made a little error while packaging it and the custom handmade levels didn't quite make it. They can be manually downloaded and installed from the addons (sorry about this). I also added the latest server application in the downloads just in case anyone is interested in tinkering with one.

I'm currently working on new dungeon generation algorithms to have more variety with the dungeon layouts. When the new version is ready it should come out here first but I can't say any exact dates yet.

Added 8 videos showing sword and board gameplay from level 1 to 20. The character's starting equipment comes from heritages unlocked during earlier runs and reaching that point will take some time and learning how to survive against various enemies and situations.

And here come the threats of defaming the game further within the crowd that this game is aimed at. Could you please just move along already?

I added a screenshot of a level 20 character that is ready to face the king (the same one that was used to make the video by the way). That should give you an idea what to expect when you take the time to properly build one.

Thank you for your opinion and awesome review. If you actually played the game and not just bash it on the comments, you would've known that you can pick lock doors in addition to bashing them with your head...

Anyway, how is your own roguelike coming up?

The focus of the game moves to the higher levels as you progress and it can take several days of playing and learning before you reach to the point mentioned there. Considering that it can take 10 to 20 hours to finish a single run, I'm not sure if the first 5 minutes matter all that much at that point...

Yes, the game is meant to be hard so that you get the feeling of accomplishing something when you unlock some of the heritages. Once you learn the combat mechanics and get some heritages, it becomes very hard to die on the lower levels.

If you can't seem to make it work, start with AGI+STA8 and place the first point on AGI, use only the starting dagger and find a shield and some armour and always rest to full health before progressing further. This increases your odds so much that you'll get to the part where orcs and daemons are the unfair enemies.

The reasoning with the above is that AGI increases your chance to dodge and when you use a small main hand as an AGI based character you can also get a small benefit from a shield even if you don't know how to use it (knowing combat mechanics is must in order to win).

Hmm, I located your account and there is no character data there so perhaps this issue has fixed on its own now? It might take a few seconds for data to be handled when you die though so it might work if you wait a little longer.

Rogue.epixx.org

Download the launcher and you can try the demo from start to finish with 10 level cap instead of 20.

It used to have +e at the end but then someone mentioned this other "indie" game that uses that kind of lore in it so I dropped the e (although all I could find is some sword but apparently a very well known sword since so many keep mentioning it). So, instead of being Frost from one of the early background images and Mourne Mountains that are located in Ireland, one can now imagine that the frost around the keep mourns under varying temperature and pressure, which to me sounds a whole lot better than a frosty armed end of a staff.

Nope, the game has never had a version that you can just download and have a full version to play with. It has been "win2own" since January because there has been no way to sell it until now. The win2own version also requires that you get a new license file every time a new server version comes out by logging on the Epixx.org server so it's not as handy as the full version here (unless the Epixx.org server is the only place you play).

The client on the website is otherwise the same as here except that in order for that version to have all 20 levels, you must have killed the king at level 10 and have your account registered on the Epixx.org server. Desura version is full without requiring that you log on the Epixx.org server.

The server app that is available there is free for all, acts as a chat room and has a top 50 highscore list.

The Desura version only has full version client link now but I suppose I could add the server downloadable here as well.

If you add -windows startup parameter to the shortcut, there is no difference. Without it the save games are stored in the game's directory instead of my documents and it will require that you run it as admin because the Desura folder is usually under program files.

Nope, no DRM of any kind.
