I'm an ex-member of the X32I team. A lot of technical issues for almost a year meant I had to leave the project.

Hi guys, if anyone reads this can you drop me an email to alexrose1uk@hotmail.com and let me know exactly what is going on with everyone and exactly where we stand with the team at current, being out of the loop because of my own issues has left me extremely isolated.

From the comments from Phil/Swamy I can see we're having some serious issues in terms of cohesiveness and being able to keep incontact with each other, and making any sort of direct progress; and Dave is currently on an extended LOA (as am I technically).

I'd rather this project didnt completley fall apart after how much time and effort people have put in, so if someone can drop me some details I will do my best to put together some sort of 'game plan'.

Is the FTP still working OK, if so I'd ask that someone takes a backup of everything on there, just incase the server goes down, so we don't completely lose access between now and Dave returning.

Yep, I must apologise for my own part in this, I have had virtually no computer now for several months due to various issues with my machines (seriously my tech karma is that bad I almost feel like I was a murderer in a past life!), which has meant my access to the team has been extremely limited (I am writing from a work machine right now, and my main other access is my phone).
Last I heard our team lead was having some serious issues offline, so as mentioned, the unfortunate fact is that we do not know when the next update will be.
The project is *NOT abandoned*, but as we all lead personal and working lives (virtually the entire team are Uni age or older and actually in full time work/study), when you couple in issues, it becomes challenging to set any sort of deadlines or scales.

-Swamy, Phil, I'm hoping to be able to see you on Skype soon.

How long is a piece of string? I'd be tempted to say until we're happy with it, but as a guide, once we've got the first episode released, you should be looking at less time than it takes for Valve to release one. :p

The first chapter will always be the hardest, because not only are you working on ships, models, writing, casting etc, you also have to get all the fundamentals down and working, once you've got the basics done, its effectively just content creation, beyond any improvements or 'upgrades' introduced between chapters.

Once we have the fundamentals lain down, it means A) the remaining chapters will/should arrive quicker B) We will have more time to focus on polish, presentation, or other bits and pieces.

Its rather random. Ship suggestions I've come up with have usually been based around objects or things I've seen elsewhere, whereas some are simply based around a concept with a rough idea of what it should look like, as Im not a concept artist though my contribution to this side has been limited.

No,it means unlike a mod, which is free, and produced to relatively low standards (usually, there are exceptions), as an indie title we aim to get the title to a releasable state, and do just that.
Obviously as an indie title though, it wont be amazingly expensive, even more so because we're going the episodic route as it's easier to manage.
Hope that makes sense.

"X32I it self, a barren wasteland, being fought over by 2 factions."

Or it was until they screwed themselves over so badly the Earth itself was left virtually uninhabitable.

No, who needs a Death Star? Costs tons, takes years to make, and gets destroyed by a rabble because of easily avoided design flaws!

More a reference to the way scientists tend to name new planets. Whilst modern Sci-Fi tends to give every planet a name, scientists tend to name stars/planets in code.
If you read the backstory on our website (www.x32i.org) it will likely help you understand the background for the game :)
I'm not going to post it here, because it's far too long for the front page!

The game itself is inspired by the likes of Freespace, Tie Fighter and plenty of other 'old-school' space combat games, and will be closer to these sorts of mission objective styled games than the free-roaming sandbox style gameplay of the X series.

Welcome to the World of X32I - Standoff!
(Pfft Blizzard can't copyright that haha!)

Hi guys, as above, I know Dave has accidentally hidden the link a little, but from now on this X32I Profile WILL NOT BE UPDATED, for the simple reason we have moved to UDK from CryEngine *and don't worry, we still intend to make everything look shiny*

Please use the new link and continue to give us your great support :)

Quite probably not, due to a lot of real life stuff going on for several members of the team, which is occupying some time.

Dave and Gareth have pretty much covered this but yeah, largely it'll be linear. There may be some minor subplot changes, but the overall game progression will be linear, and will be telling you a single story.

In some ways a lot like a JRPG...just a lot less numbers...oh and no protaganists it takes longer than 5 minutes to work out whether they're a guy or a girl, or grinding...
<And thats coming from a guy who LIKES JRPGs>

No, as you're a fighter pilot, beyond being stationed on them, you won't be able to control the larger ships. Like most modern naval/army forces, their is a heirarchy of command, and unfortunately you're not high enough up it for that!

I remember I-War. Don't worry about influences, the range of influences being considered by various team members are HUGE.

Gareth - you forgot 'and blow more stuff up'.

Timing was a little off in how it was spoken. Sure we can get that dealt with if it becomes a problem later on however. Probably just a slight misread of the line :)

For anyone looking, this sort of stuff often gets picked up internally, so the likelyhood is if you point it out, someone else has haha

Hey guys, glad you're liking it. Obviously we're not going to show you everything right now, as quite frankly, a lot of it isn't finished, we're a small team that can't produce at the rate of a fulltime, fullsize studio (although that allows us to escape the likes of EA; 'We OWN everything').

I mean its something that sinks in every now and then and almost scares me, even to produce a relatively decent mod, there is a LOT of work to be done; hell a scarily large amount of work that needs to be done before it gets anywhere, beyond what people initially think of; there's the audio score, the writing beyond a rough guideline of whats going to happen; Character development, conceptualisation, script, UI and stylisation, mission design, level design, concept artist, modelling and texturing, AI adaption and tweaking, mission triggers...the list really does go on and on.
With anything this complex, there's a hell of amount of work that needs to go into making it work, work reasonably well, and trying to polish off any bugs found, to make it something releasable...and when I say releasable I mean playable, not throw it on a shelf...patch it a week later as the attitude seems to be with some developers. Hell, we might need to patch it, but we'd rather have it playable from the off, and it's going to take one hell of a lot of man hours, effort and time to get it there.
You've seen the early footage; we have some exceptional talent, but it takes a lot of work to make everything come together.

Not to mention, we want to have things to awe and inspire you with at later dates; trust me, we have no intention of getting to a stage where we can't release this. If you've read SirBaron's blog, you'll see this version is almost a redemption project of his own, so it might be a year before you can download and play this; it might be even longer, but the mod WILL be released; and it will be at least competant when it is.

Nice little setup, Gareth, Im almost surprised you dont use a full size midi keyboard too. Nice software setup though, throw Cubase in there and you've pretty much covered all the major production software, although with ProTools, I'd imagine you dont really need it.
Needs bigger screens though :D

Hey guys, just to let you know, in my absense, in my times I've been able to go online I've been doing a little viral advertising of our mod, to try and raise the profile a little.

Nicely for us, we actually seem to be picking up a bit of a following; I've seen people mention our mod on other forums before I've even got involved or mentioned it, so its been great being able to jump in and go 'check our website at www.x32i.org'. One guy actually thought it was an offical early development official Crysis/Crytek game...he was calling it Crysis Galaxies or something haha
Providing this all works out nicely I think we've got the potential for a bit of a cult following, Dave...go stroke your ego...it's working :P

Oh, and everyone seems to like your composition so far fourteentoone!
