I'm an older (and slower) PC gamer- I remember when Quake was a new thing :D Mostly play SP shooters, adventure and RPG (lite) games these days. I enjoy SciFi settings a lot more than fantasy; I'm not big on potions, powers and magic stuff.

I predate both the personal computer and cable television - I remember when there were only three (US) broadcast TV networks! On the other hand, these days I can build and setup a PC from scratch, publish a website, mangle script code as needed and do all kinds of other things I'd never even heard of as a kid in the 1970s.

And yet - I still own neither a jet-pack nor a flying car. What's up with that?!

I freely admit my SciFi nerd-dom (and the vast collection of dog-eared paperbacks that come with it). I do also like to get out of the house on occasion - honest! :)

Oh Hai!
Sorry for the late reply-- I've been into PC games (mostly shooters) since DOOM, basically. :D

And as a hard-core sci-fi reader I'd already read and loved "Roadside Picnic" a few times, so when GSC announced a game related to the story (and film), I was stoked and started following the game. :)

I became even more interested when GSC was showing it around back in the mid 2000s, talking about making a game that was both immersive and surprising, and gave players more freedom to choose how to play (plus I've always been fascinated with Chernobyl).

And after reading about the A-Life system and RPG elements, the game sounded really cool, mostly because I was getting tired of Id-style shooters where you're a super-human soldier who can carry 17 giant weapons and run 100km per hour all fricken' day, lol!

haha Awesome! Thanks for sharing this! Yea GSC's story is as fascinating and tragic as story in stalker.

It indeed has very unique feeling.

Turns out that I like FPS/RPG games set in bleak, dangerous environments* where your stuff always breaks, you gotta grind to get better gear and **** *still* goes sideways on you in the middle of a firefight or mutant attack, *even* when you're prepared for it. Who knew? :D

*(for the record, I also think Far Cry 2 is the best game in the FC series ;D)
