Onepixelgames @ ROAD TO BETA: Private Beta is here!

Thank you!
You were quite an active player back in the early days that legends speak of, right? We hope you'll enjoy the new features!
We really mean it this time when we say that beta is coming soon - will we see you there? :)

Onepixelgames @ DUNGEON DEITIES | Dungeon Gameplay "Confusing Choices"

Hello!
Thank you for the compliments!

No worries, the game works exactly like your wish: You download a client software in this game. Only the actual dungeon creation takes place in your browser. Exploring the dungeons, however, is done in the standalone software.

All the best!
(And apologies for the late reply!)

This is, of course, very, very late. But we finally created that Facebook-page, in case you're still interested (and on IndieDB)!

If you want to, feel free to follow us there as well.

We could also reduce it in the swords version. In the chest version it would not make much sense. Do you also like the monarchs more than the other two?

That button is to toggle the view of items and decoration. For better overview of what is lying underneath, you are able to hide those.

When recreating those rooms and screenshots we had to go through old ones and also felt nostalgic quite a bit, but it was also a lot of fun :).

Good question - we really should have mentioned that in the post!
You can toggle the display of the tile heights by clicking the first buttom in the second batch (three flat planes on top of each other next to a closed eye - which opens when you activate that display layer).
If you click it, for each tile there's a number showing you the height, and a colored overlay.

Thank you! We try hard to still add our "unique twist" to our take on the 8-Bit-style graphics, but to make sure that they have "that nostalgic feel" about them. Great to hear you like it!

Officially, the engine we're using for the downloadable client only supports Windows. Everything on the browser (that is, dungeon creation and most of the player interactions) will work with absolutely no problems - but the actual dungeon exploring might be a little trickier. However, we've successfully (and easily) run the game via Wine, and people in our last alpha session used it to play the game quite regulary.
In the end, since it's not officially supported, I can't make any promises, but hey - it's only going to be a ~35MB download, and it's free, so simply give it a shot! :) Chances are it's gonna work with no hassle via Wine.

All the Best!

Thank you! It's super encouraging to hear those kind of comments. :)

Players create their own dungeons and share them in the game - we're trying really hard to make that process interesting and fun, all while giving the player many options without making it too complicated.
Making sure that puzzles could easily be created was also one of our goals - if our last alpha is any indication, then we can look forward to many fun ideas! :)

Hey,
thanks for the heads up! We actually haven't seen this before.

I don't think he's ripping us off - given our relatively low publicity, it's more than likely that he thought of the concept himself, especially since it's not that insanely unique of an idea. From the looks of it, it's also more of a turn-based roguelike, and the games differ in quite some other key details as well.

You know what they say, competition is good, right?
He's a very talented designer, and it'll be very interesting to see what he does with this concept, and where his decisions differ from ours.

In any event, thanks for letting us know! :)
Also, we really, REALLY should put another update up soon, huh?

Our current idea is to have a very reasonable monthly subscription (or perhaps quarterly, or something similar). Since we have running costs with the servers, we'd feel more comfortable with such a model.
But we are still not sure, and would love to get some feedback or alternative suggestions on this - we've outlined our thinking in more detail in the current news post, so make sure to read that one if you haven't already! :)

All the best,

Hey there!

Our current thinking is that the game is free to play up until a certain level. All features can be accessed at that particular level, and you can continue playing, but you simply won't "level up" any further.

We feel that this is closest to a classical "demo version" approach, which we always thought was a pretty fair deal.

So, yeah, you'll be able to play without paying! (Needless to say, we'd appreciate every bit of money we get ;))

Onepixelgames @ Curses, Lasers & why not to upset ancient shadow demons

Thanks! Glad you like it.

Lasers don't damage the player or enemies, but those block the lasers. So part of your puzzle could involve a timing element of a slow moving enemy blocking the beam.

The boss itself needs to be balanced still - and that is surprisingly tricky. We want to get it just right so that it keeps being tense even on repeated playthroughs, but without it getting unfair and overwhelming at first. Given how tough that is, we're thinking that we won't let players edit or change boss battles.

We're not on facebook, and we actually haven't planned to register there anytime soon. If neither IndieDB, email, nor twitter is an option for you, we may ask someone we know about that whole facebook-thing.
So, do any of the other options work for you? Otherwise, we'll have to figure something out. :)

Onepixelgames @ Dungeon Deities

We've considered such a micropayment-model, but we're not really a fan of it. Perhaps we find a way that seems fair, instead of arbitrarily limiting people's creativity, but until that happens, we'll consider other options.

So, yeah. We STILL haven't made up our mind. That's us. Business masterminds™!

Can we put a price on happiness, joy, and the secret to world peace?
Can we really be responsible for putting the solution to all of people's problems behind an artificial price barrier? Could we live with ourselves once we demand money for something so joyous?

Perhaps ;-)! We really haven't decided yet. We may go for some kind of 'donation'-model, just to get the costs for the servers back - or perhaps more, or perhaps less. We really haven't made up our mind.

Onepixelgames @ Progress Report: November 2011

Thanks!

Our current list of orb ideas is a bit longer than 85 entries (with varying degrees of Rarity and amount of uses), though it's a bit hard to say how many of these will actually make it -- after all, it's still possible that it turns out that things aren't fun at all. So no promises! But we do think that orbs are now much cooler than they were before.

NullSoldier,

No, this is not much of a problem, at least if you add shadows (those simple drop-down-shadows we're using here work fine). At least we didn't struggle with combat (or collecting items), and haven't had any feedback suggesting otherwise.
Additionally, we're moving the camera dynamically, and place it a bit higher when needed, bringing us closer to an isometric viewpoint. This is needed when the player moves further away from the camera. As an added plus, the movement in the camera makes the game appear more dynamic.

Stankor,

We've only just noticed that there was indeed an issue with the emails sent from the forum. We have now send out "reminder" emails, that also contain the needed link. You should have gotten one, too.
If there's still problems, please let us know!

(The alpha is currently in progress, but we're planning to have a second round in which people can register that should start soon. You can definately take part in it then! :))

Onepixelgames @ First Trailer for Dungeon Deities!

Hi!
Thanks for the comment! :)

We're planning to add a script so that this is checked automatically. Otherwise, you'd have to beat your dungeon every time you change something, which we imagine might be annoying after small changes (but since even a single tile might make it impossible to beat the dungeon, we'd have to force you to beat it even after such small changes).
Additionally, we might force you to prove that the dungeon is not impossible when several people died there in a row, and nobody managed to beat it - just for the rare case such a script fails.
