I'M BACK! ...kind of. Working on an undisclosed mod project and trying to participate in some Map Labs stuff.

A Return to ModDB - Life Updates, Source Mapping, and the Future

Hey everyone, it's been a while. A real long while since anything has been done with this account. I don't think many necessarily cared when I went inactive, but a lot of things have changed between then and now. Since I last accessed this account, I have graduated from high school, graduated from my community college with an Associates, and am now stuck working as an essential worker amidst the COVID crisis currently going on. Within that time, I was so caught up with everything else I had completely forgot any of the projects I once worked on before.

To address those:

Raising the Bar is now, obviously, Raising the Bar Redux, and I have no involvement with the new project. I'm a bit glad I left the old project, as back then I was terrible with making maps (at least compared to my standards now). I always felt like the mod got hindered by my lack of progress. I'm glad to see the Redux is doing well, though.

The Unknown was always kind of a failure of a project. It was my first attempt to make my own mod with my own maps, but it got too ambitious for my small skill set at the time. I also had some ideas for gameplay "improvements" for the mod that, coincidentally enough, Hunt Down the Freeman adopted. So, in the end, it's probably fine I left this project behind. I have a new idea for an independent mod project, but this one is to be better organized than the last, ha.

I've had this account on this website since 2012, which is now a pretty damn long time ago. When I created this account, I had to have been 13 or 14, and looking through this account's history as a 21-year-old really changes my perception of my past self. To be frank, I don't like my past self very much. I don't even like 2017 me very much anymore. I consider speaking about politics to be inappropriate on a site like this, but the one thing I can say about past me is that I was a bit of a dipshit. That's all I'll say.

But, enough talk about personal things. I want to talk about the REAL, ENTICING things featured in this article. That's right everyone, I'm producing MORE MAPS! And maybe decent ones at that! And, I'll actually be giving them public releases now! Exciting!

I've been working on a map for the current Map Labs at the time of writing this -- "Back on Track". After that, I continue to make some more single-map experiences (maybe as part of other competitions or just some short map pack mods, maybe?). Another thing to look forward into the future for is the current mod project I've been crafting up in my spare time. It's been in the works on-and-off again since late 2017 (with plenty of revisions to EVERYTHING), and doesn't really deserve a mod page until I feel like I can guarantee a release for the thing. Which may happen this summer if things go well and I don't delay things again.

Anyway, that's all I had to say. I'm terrible at conclusions, so I'll just end it here.
