A totally valid question, I can see how it can be a bit confusing.
The first Wings of Dawn that was released back in 2010 (has it been that long already? yikes) was my first venture into making a game with the Freespace 2 open engine, and it was indeed a complete story from start to end. At one point I started working on a sequel to it, but eventually scrapped that idea for a number of reasons. The main one being that my own skills had improved and looking back on the first release I found it to be a bit of a shaky foundation to continue developing from.
So I decided to take on an episodic release format and rework&reimagine; the whole game and story. There are some superficial similarities between the old WoD and WoD RE but they are otherwise not related/connected in any way.
Hope that clears it up a bit.
