He must have updated his DirectX and has a video card capable of handling the game. We are sorry for the graphics issue, we will try to send out a patch that allows you to change the graphics in the UI. The DirectX issue is outside of the game, so not much we can do there, except keep sending out this link Pcsupport.about.com. Thanks!

The .dll errors are caused by issues with DirectX needing to be updated. Please follow this link for steps to resolve the problems. If you just install the missing .dll you WILL just get another error.

Did you try the standalone? Some players have reported problems running the game within the Desura installer.
