Are you running any add-ons or mods to MISERY? Can you post just the last ten lines of your crash log?

No. There may be a stand alone already merged version out there, I can't recall. The original gunslinger and MISERY are not compatible becuase our launchers don't work together.

A bit of disappointing news on the STALKER 2 front: Release date pushed back to Sep 5th, 2024. We recognize and respect the desire to present a fully polished final product. Hears hoping they meet all expectations while toiling under less than ideal war footing. Slava Ukraine!

Keep the same FOV when you reinstall Absolute Nature that you chose when installing MISERY. Pick any theme you like for each map. You can make them all different if you please ;) I suggest the lowest grass height for best performance. Also, no new game is required to change themes or install AN4.

Weapons models and their animations are very prone to buggy, hard to pin down, behavior. During development we had to scrap a couple just to move on. To obtain maximum steady FPS, reinstall Absolute Nature 4 choosing the same FOV and the shortest grass height. Those millions of blades of grass' shadows will murder performance. Shadows are processed by the CPU in this Xray engine, not the GPU. Even with 20 threads at 5.2 GHz and a RTX 3080 I use these settings. Turning down shadow quality will also help. If it becomes a problem again, turn on the console to help identify what an NPC is using for a weapon and it may be easier to identify any weapon related issues. Happy Hunting, Stalker!

He is using TAZ, and will try lower switch_distance. I have requested updated recommended TAZ/MISERY settings from the new team leader via PM.

No problem. I would jump right down to 150m and see if the problem goes away, then bump it up 25 or 50 at a time for fastest results. The Jupiter plant typically requires 50m less distance than whatever works in Zaton because of the very high activity there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that TAZ specifically suggests 200 as the maximum switch distance. Since MISERY's camouflage system is dynamic and automatically adjusts, using lower switch_distances (like closer to the Call of Pripyat's original 150m) will still adjust NPC's perception/detection of you the same. I would try 125 or 150m and if it works well, adjust up 25m at a time until you start having problems again. MISERY's run file already enables 3GB+ of ram. I would re-read the TAZ release notes and verify there isn't something else I forgot which should be turned down like a video renderer.

What are your system specs (CPU and RAM), are you running the game on a SSD, and what switch_distance are you running on? Which add-ons are you running? Some require considerable reduction of some settings to operate well near high-volume/activity areas like the Stalker ship, WPP, and Jupiter plant.

Have you saved inside the aura of a controller or other psi beast? If so, edit your switch_distance in alife.ltx with notepad or notepad+. Change it to 1, save the file and relaunch the game and the save you want to continue with. Exit the area (200 meters) and save again. Return to your original alife.ltx switch_distance setting (the default is 300 and looks like this: switch_distance = 300 ; 950 ; 150 ; 350 ; 450 ; 500 ; 550 ; 600 ; 850 metres and you should be good to go.

The distrbution (GOG, DVD, Steam) does not matter. One of the addons is either incompatible with another, or just defective.

Are all of these 100% compatible with each other? Unlikely. I'm not familiar with any of them. The weapon one is my first guess as a culprit. The author may be able to help you with the error. That CPU has a very low core speed, the minimum recommended for MISERY alone is 3.4GHz. I'm fairly sure that your problem is unrelated to performance. There is probably some bad syntax or missing information in a weapons file.

Have you tried Rookie mode? It has a more forgiving economy. To be honest, I don't even use traders, except Cardan for upgrades, I only barter with other Stalkers and still end up with a half million rubles by the end game. There are tons of valuable free items you can use to maintain your gear and ample meds and food free off of carcasses.

Virtually all the "friend of's" do little more than choose your enemies. There are no significant vendor price effects. I never stay neutral, usually end up enemies of all but stalkers for more fun and loot. I have often got the friend of freedom depending on what other side quests I have completed.

Yes. Are you having trouble surviving without pristine weapon drops and loads of ammo everywhere? I can never buy a bullet or weapon from any trader and finish with a million rubles... I would guess, somewhere in death loot settings, but it's not my strong suit.

During Beta testing, several spots were very problematic like spawns from the AA complex wandering in a parade to the scientist's bunker: Dropbox.com I also had Controllers once. That required fleeing to the roof of the building you assist Uncle Yar from to snipe them from outside their psy range: Dropbox.com Your CPU is powerful, but not in an Xray 1.6 fashion. There are methods to equally share the core load (see my tips page) which can help you get your best performance. Happy hunting, Stalker!

What are your PC specs and alife.ltx switch_distance settings? If your PC CPU isn't capable of handling the amount of life you have chosen on the maps, the number and length of shadows (handled by the CPU in this ancient engine), etc. it will miss noticing that a spawn area has already been filled. Also, the more squads near the spawn point, the more likely they spawns will be attracted out of it and the engine refills it. This can lead to 'chains' of creatures trailing away from a spot. With the exception of the controllers, a grenade launcher would make quick work of any of those. You just need to attack the controllers from hand waving distance (about 200m) and all they can do is waive their arms to no effect. I do not recommend any switch_distance greater than 300m unless you have an elite cpu ( multiple 4.5-5+GHz cores) and even then no more than 400m. The game will play very well, even as a sniper down to 150m.

Well, GSC has managed to postpone release until December 8th, 2022 already. So, I guess my Springtime reentry to the Zone will now wait until nearly Winter :( This, my fellow stalkers, is why we did our best to avoid hyping a release date until it was ready for release...

I'm referring to the April 22nd release date for Stalker 2 ;)

However, if I wanted to go beyond not trading with anyone except stalkers (no barmen or medics), and only using salvaged weapons/ammo, I would perhaps try to play through without using AP ammo. Normally it is the ONLY ammo I use. I'm certain this would significantly impair my ability to flourish LOL.

You probably saved within a psy aura. Lower your switch distance to 10m, try loading the save. If it works, leave the immediate area at least 100 meters. Save, exit, restore your switch_distance to whatever you were using before. You can go as low as 1 meter to exit the area.

The heavy, once you can afford it. Here is a comparison chart between the armors camouflage for each rate: Dropbox.com The light overcoat can max out at 4 accessory slots, the heavy only 3. All the overcoats are medium daytime camouflage for sniper. Get an SP-99 helmet for PSI rotection. The Ghillie, once fully upgraded, has very good PSI protection. The sunrise and freedom armors are best for daytime camo. Duty armors will get you shot at a lot...
