If you slammed both the other version and this into one and made the units stretch in addition to shrinking, that would improve the black hole effect a whole lot. When it shrinks and stretches, if it added smoke particles that is drawn into the vortex faster than the ship itself, that would make it look like it does not just suck the ship in, it tears it apart while doing so. Bonus points if the ship catches fire while doing so.

Also, a transparency swirl around the swirl akin to the cloaking field you showed off a while back could also add some more atmosphere to the effect.
