I'm a game art student at the art institute of Atlanta. My ultimate goal in game design is to have people anticipate the story more than they anticipate the game. As a storytelling medium it has more story telling potential than any before it we have seen the first tentative steps in this direction from bioware but i want to push it even further.

Lost Stars explains it. The rebel fleet focused on the engines crippling its station keeping capabilities.

i was satisfied with the salt flats explanation. However here's a reference to explain the correlation between mass and stellar activity. Astro.caltech.edu

The temperature of a star is directly correlated to its mass. The higher the mass the more intense the output of the star. Large scale salt flats don't make since with a planet like this as the solvent wouldn't have been stable on the planets surface at any point in its development.

Planets with high metallicity necessarily have to form very close into there host star and the fact that they do have a high metallicity is determined by the metallicity of the host star which is a determining factor in the host stars mass. That being the case you wouldn't find this type of world orbiting anything solar-mass or smaller.

I was under the impression that the arterial rivers leading into the big blue ocean looking places were water. and seeing as the planet would have to be quite close to its host star to have that high a metal content it clearly cant be ice.
