I could tell you about myself, but that's boring, so here's my motivation:

Games are fun, and games are art. What makes games so great is their allowance for the fruition of this idea that has every art medium has come to in the last eighty years: the importance is the experience. Simply put, the experience of art isn't in discovering whatever the author meant; the experience is in discovering whatever it can mean to you.

Games allow for this in a way no other art form does. The natural interactivity means that each experience is truly unique to the individual. And the artist can still express themselves in meaningful ways, sending a message that the player can find and interpret in ways meaningful to himself. And, when done right, this process is a lot of fun.

On top of that, procedural generation of games if important because of the literal implications of unique gameplay experiences. The game, after all, is just the contours of your imagination.
