Beyond the disciple games (team games), no. Other than what you can negotiate with other human players. You can't negotiate with the AI. However, this is a topic best discussed in the forum and not in the comments section.

Post the problem on the forums, the comments section is not the proper place to troubleshoot complex issues.

The standalone installer download is currently broken but Desura has been notified and it should be fixed sometime tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Some of the new units are in national recruitment rosters.

Not all nations got new units. Some got their entire lineup rearranged. Some got a few new units and some none at all. Some of the old units were changed, so they may not be exactly the same. And there have been requests from the player base to spruce up the older nations to take advantage of the all the new stuff that has been added to the game, so there are almost guaranteed to be changes in future patches. Just like there are going to be new nations added in patches.

The videos available can show you an overview of the game, but I do not know if anyone has done videos to specifically highlight unit roster differences between Dom3 and Dom4. I know there should be a few videos that go over what has changed and how, but those mostly focus on mechanics and UI improvements.

Flamewars and comments intended to bait other users do not belong here in the comments section. Please desist from them and please note that this is not a request.

In answer to Vulpes Inculta's questions about how Dominions 4 is different from its predecessor, there are several important things. Among them are greatly improved AI, a much friendlier interface, team play possibility, improved turn processing for large games and massively increased modding support. All on top of the several hundred new monsters, several new nations, dozens of new spells and items. There are numerous other mechanics changes under the hood which are not and never will be obvious from watching Let's Play videos of the game.

That is why it is quite reasonable to ask for 35 dollars for this game instead of selling it on the cheap as it were just a minor expansion. In terms of replayability and value for money, Dominions 4 is a bargain.

Glad to see such enthusiasm.

The game can be played offline and you don't even need to use the Desura client if you prefer a standalone installation, so it will work exactly like dominions 3 in that Regard.

That's the intention. If you buy from here, the same key will work on Steam as well. The reverse is not true.

The actual version is 3.99e, the 3.99d in-game is a typo.

The management interface and options here on Desura leave a lot to be desired. If I could, I would lock down the review section so that it would be impossible to post any reviews before release and I would delete the already existing reviews. Unfortunately, I'm handicapped by the platform.

None of the people who have posted reviews have the game and the closest they have gotten to it are a few replay videos and screenshots on the web.

Once the game is released, reviews are welcome but not before. Actually posting a verbal comment in addition to the number, saying what you find good about the game, is immensely more helpful than just entering the number.

If you like deep, complex strategy games and don't mind the 2D sprite graphics, then I expect that you would like Dominions. Take a stab at the Dominions 3 demo and remind yourself that the UI has been greatly improved and the game itself is much better in the next iteration. For some first impressions (in a general way), the guy at Clannofgamers.com certainly seemed to think that Dominions was an easy game to get into.

Yes, you read that right. Go and see if you doubt me. There's a first time for everything, but if someone with no previous familiarity can say that, it should be an indication of where the game is going.

DON'T POST ANY REVIEWS UNTIL YOU HAVE ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME!

DOING SO BEFORE THE GAME IS PUBLISHED ONLY DAMAGES ILLWINTER BECAUSE IT DILUTES THE MEANING OF ACTUAL REVIEWS AFTER THE GAME IS RELEASED!

THE ONLY THING IT LOOKS LIKE IS STUPID AND MINDLESS FANBOYISM, EASILY DISMISSED AS MEANINGLESS.

Thank you for your cooperation.

I know many people are excited about the game, but PLEASE DON'T POST REVIEWS OF THE GAME YET! You haven't had a chance to see any of it, so that's just being overly exuberant and it actually does more damage than good because it makes it look like mindless fanboyism.

Reviews should be based on actual experience of the game and once the game is released, they are more then welcome. Especially if they are detailed, because a detailed verbal review is more valuable for people when making decisions about a purchase.

Thank you.

Hmm, do you mean the development platform? The game is developed on Linux, then ported to Windows and Mac OS, so it works on all three operating systems.

Dominions 4 was announced on June 18th, so the news has been floating around for a good three weeks now. The main discussion has been in the Dominions 3 forum. This page has just been added.

Dominions 4 is under development and it has now got a web page here that hasn't got any useful information yet, but it will come."

That question would be better asked on the forum, but at this stage of Dominions 3, I don't think so. It would require entirely new features and structural changes to the game. That's not happening.

It would also require a server lobby of some kind to go with the matchmaking system and these are not things Illwinter can provide. It's a two man team that has developed this and their other games in addition to a day job, i.e. on their free time. The just don't have the resources.

Everything else related to the current system, including servers like the Llamaserver and forums like Dom3Mods, are run by individuals who are donating their own time and resources for the benefit of the community. The moderation and administration of the forums here also fall under this category, even though the forum itself is provided by Desura.

It's a little hard to find, but if you go to the bottom of the page, then click on the "activate key" link, there is another link there that says "View all your CD-keys here", which will lead you to this: Secure.desura.com

For administrative reasons and due to the expected lower volume of traffic compared to Dominions 3, this was determined to be the best course of action.

Dominions - Priests, Prophets and Pretenders (aka Dominions 1) and Dominions 2: The Ascension Wars are offered for the sake of completeness and to make the old titles available for those who want them.

Dominions 3 uses the same engine developed farther and has improved game mechanics and many more nations (roughly 60 vs the 17 in Dominions 2). Dominions 3 also has an active multiplayer community while I am not aware of any active Dominions 2 multiplayer communities (all of those having migrated to Dominions 3).

For these reasons, it is recommended for new players to start with the third game in the series and come back to the first two if they wish to experience the whole continuum since the beginning of the series.

You already have an account here at Desura, so buy it through here. You don't even need the Desrua client to do that. Just add the game to your cart, pay with credit card and you have the game. You can also send gifts from the cart, so as long as your friends have accounts here, you can gift the game to them.

At the moment there are no easier ways than that.

The activation keys from Shrapnel Games are not transferable to Desura. This is because it was a different distribution platform and system and the master list of keys sold through Shrapnel is not in Illwinter's possession.

I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.

Edirr - - 56 comments @ Conquest of Elysium 3

You don't need to install the Desura client. Just go here: Secure.desura.com and enter the Steam key for Conquest of Elysium 3 and it will appear in your list of bought games here. Then download and install the game. No client needed.

The Desura interface is in some respects a little arcane, so it can cause some problems when first using it. For example, that link can only be found at the bottom of the page listed under the heading Play (the Activate Key option).

Sorry you had such trouble with it.

The recent flamewar between Reiart and Soyweiser has been deleted from the comments.

Let's make this clear once and for all: The comment section here is NOT the place for a protracted airing of grievances, flamewars or trolling!

Larger grievances and other lengthy discussions belong on the Dominions 3 forums, which can be found here: Indiedb.com Such lengthy discussions can be properly attended to there and anyone who has registered an account on Desura can post there.

Flamewars and trolling do not belong here nor do they belong on the forum. In the comments section they will be dealt with by summary deletion and in the forum they will be mediated if possible and dealt in a different fashion if it is not.

If there are grievances and comments posted here that require a response from Illwinter Game Design, let the administration deal with them. In this respect I and Calahan are the first points of contact and if any contacts require escalation to the developers, I will see to that.

Please abide by these guidelines.

Having some element that relates to a particular religion in a game does not equal proselytizing the teachings of that religion on other people and saying they should do that. You are free to hold whatever beliefs you choose, but as far as I am concerned, this discussion has come to an end. Any further comments on your part in trying to pursue this tangent will be summarily deleted.

With Dominions 3, you have a fantasy game. Its nations are based on real world mythologies from our world, which causes the Dominions 3 world to be a fantastical mirror of our own in many respects. For many fans, that is precisely its charm. It is not a completely different world where all names and things are made up from scratch. I'm sorry if it is not what you were looking for, but that is how it goes.

If Dominions 3 is not acceptable to you and you require a more traditional fantasy game with elves, dwarves, orcs and such, there are numerous other games out there that fulfill those requirements very well.

If you wish to mod certain nations out, you are free to do so using the tools provided with the game (the foremost among them the modding manual). Special ability symbols are not moddable, so you're still going to see the eye-in-the-pyramid on any unit that has the spying ability and short of actually reverse engineering the executable to replace that graphic, there is no remedy for that.

As far as your claims about the developers being free masons go, you are free to believe that, along with any other things you choose to believe. The act of believing does not change reality.

Edirr - - 56 comments @ Dominions 3: The Awakening

If you're upset about the illuminati pyramid as the symbol for the spy special ability, tough luck. It is a humorous reference to how pop-culture Illuminati are portrayed and as such, is perfectly appropriate for the spy. It is not an endorsement of freemasons or other such movements.

If you choose to take it as such, that is your privilege. As far as the Voice of El and Priestess of Baal in Conquest of Elysium 3 are concerned, including such classes there and basing them (loosely) on existing mythologies does not make them any less fantasy. It also does not make the Voice of El an endorsement of the Christian god or the Priestess of Baal (or the Demonologist for that matter) an endorsement of demon worship or human sacrifice.

I'm sorry if your own preconceptions and prejudices prevent you from enjoying the games of Illwinter Game Design, but that is because you read more into things than are there in reality.

You can find some mods in the forum. You can find more of them at other sites, such as the old forums at Shrapnel Games or at Dom3Mods (which is referenced in the forum here).
