3DS Max is compatible with UDK, you export the model along with the animations out as an FBX and import them into UDK, it is a rather long process but you can start by getting the static meshes into the engine to see how they work.

UDK is free to download and it is a bit tricky to get the grasp of at first, there are tutorials out there and i can direct you to a few (maybe i should start a forum thread up on this)

A good place to get some content to look at and reference is the Armored core models off of the 1999.co.jp/eng website, direct link included here

1999.co.jp

plenty of pictures and weapon packs as well as the assembly guides included.

also, if your looking for making organic models and cannot afford zbrush or mudbox a good alternative is Pixologics Sculptris which is the same as zbrush but the free version (some features not available but still close enough)

Student or trial versions of model programs work, there is also Blender which is a free 3d Modelling program, you can export your work as an .obj or .fbx and send it to one of us who has 3ds max and we can fine tune it if it needs adjustments in unwraps or poly count for the Project.

That and they would need to get the gib's custom made for each model when you do gut them XD

or do you plan on using a fracture modifier just to get them hastily ready?

As a whole you were right, the project really did allow you to grow and meet new people who share similar goals and love for a Series that really brought a lot of Mecha Fans together

(god i remember when AC first came with the playstation Demo disc... addiction from day one with that short mission)

Hope to work with you again sometime in the future be it with helping on the Modelling or voicing again.

I thought you were working with MoodyDave on creating a stand alone after his OVA was finished?

Would be interesting to have seen that all together released together, hope everything works out though

personally, after the animation you should work with a group of programmers and just release content for armored core Arena 2v2 matches (give or take) just an idea... would make a lot of the followers happy, even if they think its a playable

I enjoy it either way because its showing initiative and proves that there are other members outside of japan that actually want to get the AC community moving :P

UDK imports .FBX files, 3ds Max 2012 and 2013 export .FBX format as well, should be fine if you need models exported but remember to have your settings set up correctly otherwise you may be importing more information that you need.

(sorry for late reply, sort of got back into moddb website)

UDK is simple and almost universal, supports IOS as well as most mobile and platforms... also comes with some good community help.

if you want a good example of why i suggest Unreal Developer Kit, See MoodyDave's Project for Armored Core

Moddb.com

Also, i intend to join this group and help out if possible on projects

Agreed, for once you never know if they may be under an NDA because Valve contacted them and gave them permission to use their new Source engine to finish this project...

**** happens, mods and projects don't always have regular time updates

Dragux - - 96 comments @ Update : Scenes going great

I was talking for the individual MT's each with their own set of Kismet or script to it.

I can only think of copy pasting kismet's for things like doors and some animations on separate objects

Though, hey if looping works then thats not a bad thing (guess he could have all the MT's in one mesh and animated like that) but that might be a little sloppy too.

Dragux - - 96 comments @ Update : Scenes going great

must be fun trying to get all the scenes together and timing the animations with the camera....

Hell, a lot of repeating actions for the MT's is a pain in the *** to put together, thank god for a COPY PASTE feature right xD

The way the wings move, it feels like the vehicle is small, but knowing most Imperial vessels they do not tend to flap their wings like that...

Overall its a cool design and i applaud you for the animating, is it possible we can get it from a few different views next time? We can help you out with some comments if you need any.

Glad to see the teams not dead as well :D

Dragux - - 96 comments @ CH_Tau_XV25

is it possible to get a side view as well of the model? right now it looks like the model is more cylinder based than it is box based.

Images.dakkadakka.com

The model that your using, the XV_25 StealthSuit, has more boxed components than it does cylinder based components. I would recommend that if your going to build it, create the armor pieces as separate components and just attach them to follow the body during your animations.

The models joints look like they are just painted there to look like armor is added, maybe if possible add a few swift loops to those spots (3, 1 at the end, 1 at the center, and 1 at the other end) so you can give it that bulky look its got.

Overall though, i like how you guys have progressed in this mod, UT4 is around the corner though and i dont know if your planning to move to that engine or continue on this engine.

looking forward to more info though

Dragux - - 96 comments @ Fray - Alpha Video. Also Candy.

Its been a while since there's been a Turn Based game on this level of detail, very nice.

Wonder if you will be adding vehicles to the mix later on where specific characters will be able to use them (IE: transports or just stationary vehicles like Entrenched Tanks for long range Area of Effect support?)

also, did i see an OVERSIZED Minigun? O.o SWEET!

I'm not surprised that the CnC Renegade mod for UT3 hasn't thrown a sub division group into creating a TS mod for theirs yet... but thankfully that has not happened, i still enjoy the classic games like these with low res textures (doesnt concentrate on appearance but more on gameplay)

Dragux - - 96 comments @ Latest News: Update # 66 October 2011

Continue down the true path of Armored core, Clunky MT's and more acrobatic AC's...

True AC2-ACLR styles where the opening CG's show acrobatic Armored Cores and some Clunky versions depending on their frame types and layouts...

anyways, glad to see that your in a job and are still alive

as for Paxton,

Youtube.com (AC NEXUS)

Youtube.com (AC 3)

Youtube.com (AC 3 SL)

Youtube.com (AC 2)

Youtube.com (AC LR)

Youtube.com (AC 4 FA)

Most of the intro's they are agile, its only when they started changing groups that the armored cores become a little more sluggish but they still hold the agility that the originals had with their quick boosters

if anything, keeping true to the original AC's would be the way to go... it gives a deeper meaning to the retro fans and the new players may find it fun to see some old school techniques applied (hell.. some old school Raven's were actually mentioned in the newer Armored cores... and possibly a return in AC5 of said Arena Masters)

im looking forward to the new game.. and im looking forward to seeing what Dave's got up his sleeve for the animation :D
