I have published a full release of the game up to this moment. I feel the game is past its beta phase, but I do not feel it is the final product. More content, storylines, characters and mini games are in the works to be added. On one hand it would be easy to walk away from this project, call it finished and start work on another game, but this story and game have grown on me. I would like to see what developes from it. Let me know what all of you think. Should I continue or begin work on a second chapter to Coagula?

There is an external OpenAl solution available called SG Audio that I have been looking into. However, it is turning out to be a resource hog and it seems to be causing more problems and does not appear to be a true solution.

There may also be some third party options that I can look into to resolve the issue. I will see what I can do.

Thank you. For that information. After closer inspection of my engine it would appear that I am already using DirectX and DirectX Music. However, your details helped me locate the issue. It has been brought to my attention that win 8 crashes the app due to incompatibility with sound files using the DirectX music. Aside from removing the sound files completely, there is no solution at this time. A report has already been filed with ms regarding the issue. Rolling back to win 7 will correct this issue for now.

I am also going to convert the mp3 files used into midi files so that there will be more control over effects and sound levels of the background music. Keep our fingers crossed that this might also resolve the issues with the lag and crashes caused on win 8.

PS.. I wasn't aware of any FPS drops before your post since on my pc it runs at 50 FPS and only drops to 30 FPS on boards with over 5000 objects within view. Again thanks for the feedback. I am making this change my first priority.

Thanks for the feedback. I am looking into your FPS issues. Also, yes it uses a software renderer, but I will see if I can convert to Direct X and if not then possibly OpenGL. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. May I also ask, what version of windows are you running it on?

Current published project may be Coagula, but other projects are also being tweaked in the background which are set and focused primarially on 3d.

Coagula is a revisit to the old 2d platformer days and is being developed as a tool to help kickstart other projects.

Also if jumping on little enemies is to much of a task, a player can simply click on several small insects to squash them.

Also I should probly note that this game was designed and tested on a Acer using Win 7. Older computers may have issues with some of the coding being used in the game. If so, don't be bashfull let me know so that I can let others know of any problems with running it on older systems.

Sorry all, news about the second release came before the second release was available.

It had to go through the approval process first. Which took a bit longer than was expected and some of you may have ended up downloading the original beta with all its earlier problems.

Please, don't give up. Try again and make sure the version you are downloading is listed as the beta v2.

There are several different spells also now available throughout the game. Including fireballs that aim at the mouse. And at any point in the game, you can press "b" for firebreath so long as you have enough mana, or press down several times to enter lotus position to restore mana.

Smalller enemies can be jumped on to kill except for trantulas and snakes.

Those issues were the issues found in the first beta. The secound beta just got approved and should be listing now. Also if the music is not to your liking, simply press the "m" to toggle the background music on or off.

Spoiler Alert!

The forum for Coagula now contains a short list of cheat codes for beta 2. I recommend you try the game first before taking the time to tweak the game with any of the cheats. The default top ten was reached without any cheats being activated. But hey, if that is your thing, then go for it. Have fun and thanks for taking the time to download and play Coagula.

During in house beta testing, it should be noted that I personally witnessed, that males tended towards the bloodier side of the game while the ladies tended towards the peaceful farming aspects of the game mechanics. Without knowing that both aspects of the game were available, both played the game in totally different fashions. Many months of notes were recorded in regards to there personal ways of approaching the same situations and the game developed to cater to each player type.

The results were better than could be expected.

Many elements of the game have multiple features. Not all is as it seems. For instance, a player can choose to rage through the game and will find the game will adjust to there aggressive behaviour and answer back with aggression, and before long, they will be wading through rivers of blood.

Yet, a player may decide to take the peaceful path and spend hours collecting food, relics, and pets. They may just going around petting and feeding the wild animals. Such players will find the game peaceful, and perhaps find themselves surrounded by fields of butterflies.

The possibilities are many.

Most aggressive npcs through out the world under closer observation will expose there true intent. An example would be, getting shot by an archer from across the map, This might be because the player simply wondered into the range of a hunter shotting at a deer on the other side of the map.

Many areas of the game are well hidden and generally overlooked the first time through. The world is designed in a giant loop that allows for the player to travel all the way around and back to the beginning. Players can at any time turn around and head back to previous areas, and they will encounter different challenges on every revisit since the majority of the game was coded with randomizers for most all elements of the game.

A complete rewrite of the game engine has allowed for boards to surpise there previous size limits such as the one captured above. While this map has had some updates since this still was taken, a great deal more time has been spent on the overall game functionality than the level design.

Players can now double jump, climb ladders and lattice as well as swim.
Most objects now have weight and can be placed into the inventory and used in other places within the world of the game.

Almost every object within the game, including the blocks, can now be acquired and taken back to the players lot and used to create the players own personal kingdom.

Searching for a goal? Try reaching lvl 10. It's been discovered that players who make it to at least level ten seem to have a fairly good grasp of how the game plays, and remember that you can save at anytime. So the best practice, is to save often.

Places such as these are through out the game but some can only be reached by passing through pictures (painting on the walls) inside of buildings.

Players who would like to carry more in there personal inventory should focus more on leveling up. Every level up increases their carry capacity.

No two adventures should be the same. The game is coded with many random creation events, and the terrain is capable of modification. I look forward to reviews, and would love to see what creations come forth from players in their personal lot space. Experiment, explore, but most of all have fun.

Hidden through out the world of Coagula are a series of mini games and activities. This weapon crate, for example, offers the player a random chance to sort through a variety of weapons and choose one that best suites there style of game play.
