Hi keawstudio,
I know what you mean. I'm managing to put in about 3-5 hours on the weekends and that seems to be working well.
I'm ok with modeling, so my biggest challenge so far has been understanding how BGE processes code at and throughout runtime as well as general models and tools in the BGE API.
Thankfully I've recently overcome that obstacle and its made writing python code much easier.
Last week I worked out how to run import python modules via the python controller, so I'm on the process of consolidating a lot of the separate scripts into a structure with improved design patterns.
It's very basic, but so far I've whipped this up Youtu.be
I'll replace the models in the future once I have the "game" parts down.
Hey there, great job. Thanks for sharing the journey in your blog, it was a good read.

Iconic shotgun and door opening audio effects to drive home the nostalgia. Classy.
Blender is a complex beast.
Do recommend a daily 1-2hr dose of Blender practice until it becomes second nature.
Otherwise its a bit like learning a new language, you will learn how to model, but remembering where all the options are in blender can be tricky!
