Founder & Lead Writer/Designer of Dark Craft Studios. I've been making Lovecraftian, narrative driven modifcations for the better part of a decade. The Worry of Newport (2011, Crysis), Triptych (2017, Crysis) and The Shadow of the Ramlord (2019, Amnesia: TDD) are my completed projects before retiring in 2020. Was nice to make things for you all!

It unfortunately does not. Even more unfortunately, the development team is now six years (time flies ugh) removed from this project and I don't have the means to fix it alone.

I'm considering deleting the mod from Steam and Moddb, tbh. The codebase was recompiled by a preprocessor into assembly via our programmer Spelos, and I don't have the capability of reverse engineering his work. In short, I can't fix it.

Work has slowly begun on a level design pass that involves an overall improvement to lighting on each map, plus a pass on scene depth. Primarily the lighting will be repainted entirely to present a more atmospheric, detailed look to replace most of the "blanket" lighting style from release.

I've sectioned off a moment in each level that could use some scenic depth; previously, only the Ballroom had a view "outside" the playable area, and this will be added to every map subsequently. I have some cool ideas in particular for the ending.

That's all. I've found myself with some free time, but don't want to commit to any new project, so I figured Ramlord could use a patch -- it never got one, afterall.

I don't want to type too much for a single picture, but I will note this patch will purely be visual. None of the codebase, gameplay, or mission design will be touched. It's been 3 years, and the entirety of the team has long since moved on.

Development files for Triptych have been found! They are a copy of the latest development build, post-release. The restoration and re-release of Triptych will be my summer project.

Remastering it will be difficult, so my focus will primarily be on audio, scripting, and performance improvements. A proper post-mortem and detailed news post will come later, and while I'm hesitant to state a release date, I'm hoping for sometime in late May.

Excellent feedback man, I fully agree.

Because of the complication of the development cycle and the timeline we were working with, quite a few concepts never fully developed. The ending two maps were one of them, as well as lack of puzzles.

So ultimately the focus was put fully on story, voice acting, level design and atmosphere. The concepts I could put the most polish into, given my limited skillset. This was my first, and only, mod for HPL2 ever. Learned the engine for this one.

I'm sorry to say that Triptych is no longer available.

I hope those who played it could take something away from the story.

Hey there.

You'll need to do the "-mod Newport2" method for GOG. It's pretty easy though. You need to go to the root Crysis folder the GOG installer made, right click the Crysis.exe (Its in either bin32 or bin64) and then make a shortcut for it to your desktop, /then/ apply the shortcut hook as laid out in the install instructions.

And finally, there are some elements I would have loved to do better. A second ending, where you could complete the ritual instead of pursuing the Ramlord problem, would have been an interesting dilemma.

Establishing the Ramlord itself as an identity was always a goal, but never happened. I couldn't find the space for it. One antagonist with a theatrical voice was enough.

Would have loved to find a way to frame the ending dialog better, and cut it way down, or perhaps even a boss fight of... some kind. Ish.

The cutscene in the middle feeling like a break between two different mods is now only obvious in post mortem, but I would have liked to fix that and make the pacing more consistent.

But ah well. Maybe I should write a post mortem.

Part 3

Johan is delirious, inhuman and completely broken but still fights onward relentlessly given the new opportunity. He works to create a banishment ritual to unmake/kill all the revenants, himself and Anton and Emilia included, to reset the entire problem. As we wander the catacombs we discover Anton torturing another individual, his identity being established near the beginning of the mod. He reveals it was Emilia who sent the letter, and Anton is enraged and storms to kill Emilia. However, there is a cavein for Ramlord reasons, and Johan/Anton duke out the longest unintentional hoax of a theological debate. Sorry, that part's awful. My bad.

Johan discovers Emilia at the bottom of the manor in a tunnel. A sound of a baby crying is heard and Emilia allows Johan to... stab. The two share some delicate words and realize that, due to the prior cavein, they will live underneath the manor forever.

Part 2

Anton returns some time later to find her dead. He brings her back, chains her on the bottom depths underneath the manor, and she is pregnant again. Yeesh.

Johan arrives at Caecea to find the manor abandoned but, slowly with Emilia's help (Clues and messages she's left to guide us, magically, in essence.) finds his way into the secret bowels of the manor. A trap in the Library, however, is theoretically our downfall. This point in the story is rather important, as two key notes are left rather bare.

1: Johan is tortured to find out how it is he came to discover Anton, and the manor. He never cracks and succumbs to his wounds due to age. He is brought back from the dead.

2: Both protagonist and antagonist suffer a severe consequence of hubris here. Johan is so confident in his skills and ability that he is duped into a very last minute trap, and Anton is proud enough to want to turn Johan into a revenant himself since that is the very fate that would destroy a man of his faiths soul.

Sorry guys, there are going to be spoilers here. However I trust you've all played it by now. Also I'm going to be bluntly stating some nasty, dark themes fyi.

Part 1

We are Johan, an aged and experienced Witchfinder. It is a sect of the Church tasked with finding and uprooting the occult. This can be viewed through a Lovecraftian lens in my writing.

A recently married Baroness, Emilia, has sent us a letter asking us to intervene with the Necromantic practices of her husband, Anton. He is building a web of acolytes and equals by hosting private events at his manor, and Emilia has seen enough to know where this plot is headed.

By the time we arrive, much of the story has already concluded. This is important to keep in mind, as you play through the game you are still in the past tense. Before the game starts, Emilia finds out she is pregnant, and it is stillborn. Whether this is her doing is up in the air. This enrages Anton, who rather stupidly reveals his plot to use their unborn son as a sort of Rosemary's Baby avatar to something called the Ramlord.

With time, he assaults her, and she is pregnant again. Unspecified but nonetheless severe circumstances cause Anton to leave the Manor, and Emilia enjoys her solitude among what was once her home and even dances to wonderful memories she has, before she ends her own life.

Great work guys, love all the new races and models. I've installed it to the letter perfectly and it appears to work (I can see all the new races and play them too) and have FreeUI, Objective, and Tyranids working. LAA + Launching through the right module on the mod manager.

I don't have any new units for any vanilla races. At all. 99% of the stuff I can view in the army painter I can't use. The game still launches, the AI still fights (they don't build the new stuff either.)

Wondering what's going on?

I'm happy you enjoyed it. Thank you for the feedback; I'd love to read a review, if you'd ever be so inclined!

I love that you asked that!

Anton and the Necromancy themes are generally inspired from Lovecraft's take on it in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Namely the antagonist, Joseph Curwen.

Emilia's preternatural situation is akin to The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen, but really only in atmosphere.

Johan is mirrored after Vincent Price's characters, none more notable than Witchfinder General. Except in this case, imagine if he was fighting real evil.

Caecea itself strays more towards poe. I read Masque of Red Death and The Fall of the House of Usher for level design inspiration. As well, the castle in Lovecraft's Outsider.

This isn't a bug I've encountered before. What platform are you playing on? Windows or Linux or Mac? Likewise, is your Amnesia patched to the latest version or on a client like Steam? Feel free to PM me for any further bugtesting, I'd be happy to help.

Thanks for the feedback, it's been added to the bug hunt list for an upcoming patch! That's certainly a curious one. I believe map three is the Ballroom, which actually shouldn't have any falling objects. Perhaps there's a physics jam (objects intersecting) that is overloading the physics engine on some startups.

What OS are you on?

Saving is fully capable and also thoroughly tested. In order to load the save properly, you need to go into your custom stories folder, select SOTR again, then hit continue or load from there. Doing so from the generic main menu will load Amnesia TDD, no matter what.

Thank you so much. I sank hundreds of hours into the writing, and I'm glad it paid off for you. Indeed, it was written in the 19th/20th century dialect on purpose. I'm glad it struck the right chords for you.

My next "project" will, in fact, be a free anthology of writing to be released at an undetermined time, but I'm dedicated to the idea of getting it done this year. I'll surely post a news feed update on all of my mods to announce it.

Mmhm. I announced a retirement from video game design at the conclusion of my latest (final) release, The Shadow of the Ramlord. I designed that mod to be, top to bottom, the most polished version of my formula and storytelling as a proper sendoff for my ten year hobby.

Unfortunately, I have chosen to retire and no longer focus on video game modifications.

This was my last video game project actually, but thank you for the kind words. If you own Crysis 1, there are two other mods I've made that are similar for that engine instead!

Objectively, Ramlord is our best mod, then Triptych. Newport was my sophomore mod and is almost ten years old, so the writing isn't even a third as good as the others, but I consider it still playable.

I wish that we could have provided the killer soundtrack part because I agree, but due to circumstances of timing it never came to be. A shame.

It is an involved process that takes knowledge on video game level design fundamentals, programming and thorough designs. But it's possible to do by yourself. If you ever wanted resources or tutorials PM me, I can send you my favorite resources.

Looking forward to your review of ramlord!
