I enjoy trying out all sorts of indie games. My all time favorites are AirBuccaneers (HD), Mount & Blade: Warband and Minecraft. I'm running the Air Buccaneers Community Wiki on Wikispot.

Looks great! The visual style reminds me of the Gothic / Risen series.

Agreed, having good graphics is nice, but in the end its the gameplay that really matters.
I don't agree about the "It seems to be that graphics are the only thing that matters to most of this generation" part however. If most of the players really only cared about the graphics, Minecraft wouldn't be the huge success it is.

So obviously nothing has changed in all the years since I quited playing Counter Strike (back then, it was still a Half Life 1 mod).
Counterstrike might be a good game, but it has the worst playerbase of any game ever. Everyone swearing at each other, constant cheat accusations, and if you somehow manage to kill a pack of 3 clan players on their own server, you can be sure you get banned in the next 10 seconds.

Hmm, AirBuccaneers still has a rather small community at this point, but usually you can get a good match at the weekend or on the evening of any workday. Most of the players I know of are from europe or russia, so it might be a time zone problem.

Hmm, I somewhat doubt the sub-contractor idea. If every single model is made by someone else, you will likely end up with a mess of different styles. And even if you could make it work for model makers, that concept would never work out for programmers. It can take a coder weeks to familiarize himeself with a new codebase.

About the mod deaths - in my experience about 80% of all mods fail (not only on Mod DB, but in general). No reason to get obsessed about it though. Those people asking about the mods 2 days after the last update obviously have strange ideas .. they are probably confusing ModDB with Twitter or something ;)

Interesting, obviously I was right to not buy this game.
When I first read the summary on steam I hoped this game would allow you to break into banks silently, Thief / Deus Ex style.
Then I saw the trailer and thought "WTF, this is just another shooter". And not even a good one.

Looks very promising, tracking this. I love this genre, however there are rarely any real survival games around. Actually, I can think of only 2: Robinsons Requiem (released 1994) and maybe Project Zomboid when its finished. I don't count Minecraft as a real survival game - I mean you can fall in lava or get killed by a creeper, but you would have to act really stupid to starve.

How realistic will the game be?

In Robinsons Requiem you could break your leg by falling down a cliff, requiring you to splint the break.
With a untreated injury you could bleed to death or die due to a infection.
Eating the wrong kind of berrys or eating rotten flesh would also kill you.
You could even get a cold when you walked through a big cave, unless you put on warm clothes. To craft warm clothes you had to kill a tiger first. To kill the tiger, you first had to craft bow & arrows.

The alpha is free.
You can prepurchase the game for 15€ or 25€ if you want, but you don't have to.

Nevermind, the download to the alpha was apparently added shortly after I posted.

Just played the prototype, enjoyed it a lot! I like the graphic style and the gameplay is great fun. All in all awesome work, I will keep tracking this game.

The only thing I didn't like was that I had to figure out the keyboard controls by trying out every single key. I know this game is supposed to be played with a 360 controller, but you should still list the keyboard control too. Using mouse & keyboard actually worked great once I figured out the keys, maybe except for the gadget selection. You could support the mousewheel for that.

For a full game you should make the combat mechanics a bit more interesting, maybe adding combos or something. The simple combat system was ok for the prototype, but for a full game it would probably get monotonous after some time.

Glad to see this game on IndieDB! You forgot to add the most important thing however: the download link to the Alpha.

Everyone: You can download it on the offical site ( Airbuccaneers.com ) in the mean time.
