Software Engineer, Game Designer, Composer, guy for everything
Information about the game is contained in the previous post.
It took more than a year to develop the game "Dichotomy" borrowed from the idea of "Among us", but the game was still released. There is still a lot to be finalized, a lot to add. In the pursuit of image quality and optimization, I completely forgot about the most important thing in a network game, these are the players... Zero online of course greatly upsets me, but it is not a reason to give up, since this is not my first project, I was ready for such a situation. When the development load decreased slightly, I decided to keep a developer's diary. I hope this will be a useful experience for independent developers.
I'll start from the beginning, why UE4 ?
- I am well versed in Unity and Unreal Engine, but from the point of view of "image quality from the package", UE4 had a number of advantages for me. You can get exactly the same picture and even better in Unity, but it will take much more time.
/ Remark/
In early versions, UE4 was completely inconvenient for mobile development, even the sound slowed down in a completely empty mobile application. Unity has always shown excellent convenience and performance on mobile devices. Now it's all in the past, but the sediment remains.
Personally, my opinion is that if you take the best from Unity and add it to UE4, it will probably be the best solution for game development.
Especially compilation of project source files and shaders ;)
Great, I have a software solution for the future image of the project. Now you don't need to create a prototype of the gameplay.
/ Remark/
Initially, I imagined the gameplay as a "Top View".
The prototype of the project participated in "WN Hub FOR UNREAL ENGINE DEVELOPERS", after the qualifying round, entered the official number of participants in the competition, after which, quite "successfully" flew out of it.;)
After a short pause, I decided to rethink some points in the project. And the gameplay began to take place in the first person.
It would seem such a minor change, but if I only knew how many difficulties will arise after the changes I have made.
I will tell you about this in the next posts. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them in my free time.
Thank you for reading to the end.
May I ask why did you switch to 1st person choice at some point?
