I would think that the people who blatantly resist ideas like evolution, or any new ideas for that matter, are the people who don't really understand them. And of course, it's also likely that some of those people have become close-minded, and only trust the information that fits easily into what they already know.

If you want people to accept those ideas, you have to show them the proof in a way that they can understand.

People only accept what makes sense to them. Something like gravity is easy to accept because everyone has seen it work over and over again, but something like evolution or the big bang is much harder to understand. It's not just a matter of seeing something that's been dropped a hundred times falling a hundred times; you have to understand many other concepts for the things you're told about those theories to fit together and make sense.
