The Fourth Legion, also known as 'The Black Legion', first gain fame in the Great War at the Battle of The Red Rings, where they held a vital defensive position on the Eastern flank against three waves of elite Dominion Infantry, including a calvary charge, a magical bombardment, and, most famously, an Elvish Phalanx. After the signing of the White-Gold Concordat, the Fourth Legion was awarded The Dragon Banner of Tiber Septium, an accolade seldom given to any unit in the Imperial army, and their signature Black uniforms and shields. They have seen service as a police force in Hammerfell (prior and directly after the region's expellsion from the Empire), patrolled the Morrowind border and it's flow of refugees, and, most recently, Skyrim, where the are working to quell the Stormcloak Rebellion.

*Disclaimer: none of this is official, and the events stated in the discription are only partly canonical to the Elder Scrolls, and this was mainly for fun.

Description

"..... Now the Altmer were still licking their wounds of the previous two day afflicted by General Jonna's Nord Legionaries in the south after the Imperial's swift and sudden push West to rendezvous with Legate Decianus' veterans from the Hammerfell campaign, and had bolstered their defenses (on Lord Naarifin's orders). The Occupied Imperial City was surrounded on all sides, and the Empire was ready to launch their final assault to reclaim the city. However, Emperor Titus Mede was injured in an assassination attempt by an Altmer spy, and was thus unable to lead his men into battle. Knowing full well his importance to the army's morale, he kept his injuries a secret, and appointed The Hero, whose name has been lost to legend, the task of leading the assault. 'Ere it was on the third day of the battle that fate decided the two armies would clash head-on, with the Hero donning the Emperor's armor to look the part of his appointed role. Lord Naarifin's forces marched out in their thousands, golden armor of Elvish make glistening in the sun, which hung low in the morning sky. The battle was fierce. Men fell upon Elf pikes, Elf flesh was rended by Imperial Steel, and all which stood from bitter defeat and glorious victory was the shield-wall of the IV. We were given a simple order; hold the line. And so we held the line. Through screaming hordes, seas of pikes, and mage's fire we held the line, and we did not break ranks until the last pointy-eared bastard was either run for the hills or lied strew upon our spears. Lord Naarifin was hung from the White-Gold Tower, and the Dominion's army was left in ruins. The Battle of The Red Rings, and The Great War, had ended." - Tiberius Garrus, 'A Veteran Account of The Great War'
