A Living, Lifeless Planet

almightykeyboard Blog

A grandiose, immersive walking simulator set on a barren, not-so-distant planet.

An astronaut crashes on a barren planet; two of its crew went missing — a grim reality sets in as the protagonist realizes he is all alone on a deserted planet. The oxygen levels are low; you see a flashing light from across the desert plains. Instinctively, you head towards the source. Lo and behold, an oxygen refilling station stands ominously against the endless backdrop of sand. Levels at maximum, you head on towards another point.

As you are walking across the land, aimlessly, an incredulous feeling grips you as you a line of electrical poles, connected to one another by a low, arching cable.

Edging on to wherever the poles lead you, a cluster of single floor houses, with sloping roofs on each side, constructed of wooden planks, greets you. The sound of your breathing fills the helmet, as you raced towards the houses.

This is Lifeless Planet: a walking simulator game that conjures up more questions than there are answers. With a musical score that reminds you of Tron, and at times a mellow, gloomy tune of the cello fading into the game-play, Lifeless Planet is, nonetheless, an adventure into the unknown with a strong story-line. It was developed by an Indie game developer Stage 2 Studios, a masterpiece by David Board. The game was funded via Kickstarterwith a total of $17,236 and backed by 641 donors.
