Weekly Round Up 31/05/13

AdamSRussell Blog

It's been a good week for Godsweeper progress as we gear up to show the game at LAUNCH on Thursday.

This week we have:

  • Mocked up the main menu and got that into the game, so you can now choose your difficulty level!
  • Mocked up the win and lose screens for after each game (image below).
  • Had a meeting in a tea shop and created a very long to-do list!
  • Designed and ordered new business cards. This is far more exciting than it sounds, and there should be a blog post next week to prove it!
  • Storyboarded menu animations, because UI's are more fun with a bit of movement!
  • Planned the ‘How to Play' section based on player feedback.

Don't forget, you can play Godsweeper on Thursday if you come along to Birmingham Science Park. Tickets for the event can be bought here

Have a great weekend!

Godsweeper at GameCamp 6

AdamSRussell Blog

Yesterday I had the pleasure of heading down to that there London to attend
GameCamp 6. It’s an excellent event and I’d recommend it to anyone with an interest in games and gaming.
While there were lots of excellent discussions and information to take away, the most exciting thing for me was being able to show Godsweeper to the public for the first time.

I set up Godsweeper in the digital playtesting room, and had about 50 minutes to show the game to people. There was always someone playing, and I even had to turn away people so I could catch my train home in time!

The key pieces of feedback received, were that:

  • The numbers can be confusing for someone coming from a traditional minesweeper mind set
  • The grid is large and can be imposing to new players

We’ll be addressing these issues as a priority, and are planning to create multiple difficulties with smaller grids and fewer follower levels for starters. This will make the first game for new players less imposing and they will be able to succeed sooner.
Finally, a couple of stats:

  • Of six games of Godsweeper played, only one was completed
  • The completed game took 12:30 to complete
